RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks special teams coach Brian Schneider likes what he sees in rookie returner Tyler Lockett.

"Excellent, more than I expected in terms of him being able to track the ball and field the ball," Schneider said. "His work ethic is unbelievable. So he’s everything you’re looking for and we’re just excited to see him go.

"Tremendous ball skills, in terms of tracking the ball and catching it," Schneider said. "And then he’s so quick. You could see him on a couple quick screens here. He looks like a punt returner. He has a lot of skill."

The return game was a weak area for the Seahawks last season. Lockett also has looked good as a slot receiver in 11-on-11 drills during organized team activities and rookie camp. He easily has been the most impressive rookie so far in offseason workouts.

He looks stronger than I expected him to be, thicker and more muscular than Richardson.

He's definitely getting a lot of praise from this round of OTA. During one of his press conferences, Sherman said he believes that Lockett can be as explosive in the return game as Harvin (Paraphrasing, but that's the point he made).

Yeah, I remember that as well. In addition to huge production as a WR -- 2,777 yards and 22 receiving TDs over the last two seasons, breaking his father's KSU records for career receptions and yards -- he was also the nation's best returner.

21 punt returns for 402 yards (19 yards per return) and 2 TDs. Also had four kickoff return TDs at KSU. He set and broke the Big 12 record for kickoff return average twice with over 32 yards per return and was twice named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year.

This was one of his first returns as a true freshman:

Every article I read it's all about Lockett and how he's doing very well in OTAs. I think I remember someone use to say that Tate always looked good in training camps during his stint before he started. If that's an indication then Lockett will do well in regular games. I'm looking forward to seeing this kid play.

Except Tate was never praised pre-season for his route running ability. He was praised for his unique athleticism. At the time, Leon Washington was the return specialist. Completely different than praise for Lockett.

I love hearing this. I think this kid has a great chance at being the steal of the draft. A true game changer with instant inpact!

Where is the route running praise? Didn't see it in this thread so curious. I "expect" a significant improvement in the return game but keep hoping he surprises as a great WR

He was Kansas State's entire offense despite the fact he had horrible quarterbacks throwing to him and everyone and their mother knew exactly what was coming.

This is the sort of thing we were hearing (if I remember correctly) about Richardson last year, too.

If we have two of those types on the team at WR this year, and Graham, Russ will have some options who may actually get some separation, stretch the field out, and maybe even make Lynch's job easier.

I'm excited to watch Lockett play!

I have a feeling he's gonna make a push for Baldwins job. I love ADB(on the field) but if they mainly play Lockett in the slot I have a feeling he may look better than him if all this offseason praise turns into on field production.

Both can also play outside, so there may be two jobs for them, but they do appear to be the same receiver type.

He looks like he is built very sturdily, like he can take a hit and bounce back from it. I like the fact that he doesn't have a history of knee problems or concussions. Despite playing a ton of snaps on offense and special teams for KSU, he has only missed one game since 2012, which was for a hamstring. He bounced back from that injury with an 8-reception, 111-yard, three-TD performance. He didn't miss any games in high school either, even playing the entire season his junior year with a broken hand. That is toughness and grit.

And scouts say he "likes to block."

I still don't think Lockett is a slot guy. I don't know where they have been practicing him, but I think he ends up outside.

With his family history I expect that he has been given a grounding in how to take care
of his body. Specifically, how to care for his body for the NFL.

Watching his college games he seems to have the knack for getting down without
being blasted with a direct hit. I don't think making the change from college
to pro level is going to be as difficult for this young man as it is for most.
