It wasn’t just Lance. That o line is a disaster with 3 of 5 expected to make the team but being turnstiles. They can’t just say that they’ll have Trent Williams back and Expect to be fine with it.

So the biggest weakness of the 49ers right now is youth on the interior O-Line and QB. They have guys they like in Burford and Banks (and even UDFA Jason Poe), but those guys are REALLY green and gonna make mistakes. Other than injury...if they struggle this year...its gonna be that interior line and QB (and the combination of both factors) that will hold them back.

Interior Line is my biggest fear.

O line was a disaster last night. The tackles were back ups but still they were going against Houston back ups and it does not hold much promise if Trent Williams and MCgllinchey go down. Oh yeah and Williams is injury prone and McGlinchey is coming off a torn quadriceps. Aaron Banks is big and slow. Jake Brendel (C) actually did ok but Sutherland his back up is TERRIBLE. Perhaps the worst player on the team. Right guard Spencer Burford has had a good camp and good two first games, but this one was not good. Scuttle but out of camp is UDFA LG Poe may take Banks job but we'll see.

I think getting Williams will settle the whole line down and anchor the LG position more. Where the heck is daniel Brunskill? He has been injured all camp and would have been a veteran presence.

Seahawks line has looked much better this year so far and as a result I think they will have success on offense. Defense could be another story though.

I think Lance did ok. His passes were off, but that is his struggle , accuracy. Everyone is crapping on him but he did not throw an INT. I think the throw to Deebo was fine, Deebo did not seperate and was interfered with in my opinion. Lance struggles with short pass accuracy placement which is very important for a YAC based offense setting up the receiver to continue running in stride. I think Lance did not have a comfortable pocket all night.

the 4th down play read option to Sermon would have been an ideal for Lance to take it and run but I think they did not want him running

Agreed on all counts.

Moreover, what the offense looked like in the preseason has no bearing on what it will look like in the regular season. Teams aren't scheming on either side of the ball. Some position groups are even put in bad situations intentionally in order to see how they respond.

The offense was VANILLA...very little was done to protect Lance or the Offensive line.

That will change in Regular Season.

Additionally they will accentuate the plays in practice that they will actually run in the games in the next 17 days, not just the entire playbook.

None of this means BAM, all issues fixed. It just means as I've said over and over....Preseason means nothing. Lets wait till like week 5 of regular season and see what it looks like.

My guess?

Lance struggles, has ball placement issues particularly on short throws but is FAR more explosive and hits some deep shots Niners haven't had in the arsenal in years.

That pass to Deebo was vastly underthrown Deebo had to pump the brakes and reach back over his left shoulder. Good way to pop a patellar tendon. I agree with most of your posts btw you bring an objective approach with the few exceptions of embellishing.

Everyone is trying to score the next Mahomes without doing their due diligence in actually scouting the overhyped prospect. Division 2 college ball to the NFL is like going from a razor scooter to a corvette. He may never pan out

Kind of a crappy article. It states "without 76 yard bomb to Danny gray, yards per catch would plummet well below 8.8" . Of course! But that is the whole reason Trey Lance MAY be an upgrade over Jimmy G. He can hit those passes.

I get it. But as everyone has acknowledged, even if you think You have your qb, very few of them are competitive on Year One.

I don't think anyone here is saying there is no chance he won't pan out. I think we are just saying we won;t over-react to the preseason and ALL first year starting QBs not names Mahomes or Herbert struggle...and those guys played ALOT more on the college level.

Lost in all of the drama is that Lance needing reps is COMPLETELY EXPECTED. Thats why I'm not over-reacting. I'm seeing what I expected.

RE the Deebo comment...I can count on one hand the number of times Deebo has caught a go route. That's not his game. Additionally he didn't practice with Lance at all until just a few weeks ago.

The ESPN mock draft (meaningless I know) has us selecting 9th and missing on the top 3 QBs and taking Van Dyke with the Bronco pick and an edge with the 9th pick. Sounds a little worst case-ish to me.
How relevant is an opinion on a future draft based upon future draft seeding based upon heavy speculation on not only the Seahawks season but the seasons of the entire NFL without a down having been played?

How often are mock drafts particularly accurate when you actually know the seeding? This is more fantasy than anything. But hey, it does feed your narrative, so there's that.

That’s what I mean about embellishing. It was a 30 yard pass against guys that already got cut and a blown coverage. Wasn’t a bomb Gray took it most of the way on the ground. It was his only good pass then they pulled him out and when he plays a real defense with game like conditions he fails to meet even the smallest expectations. He just isn’t ready guy

I still remember watching last year’s game against the Cards in AZ when Lance got the nod and failed to produce. Your defense kept you in the game and Lance looked like shit. He came in at halftime in a tied game with us then lost the game and looked like shit in the process. Still can’t get over the amount of draft capital forfeited by the 49ers to move up lol

LOL..."plays a real defense".

Right...with neither of his tackles and under pressure on every down.

"Fails to meet even the smallest expectations". Like...wut? I'm not saying he played great but he was 7-11 for 49 yards. One incompletion was a deep shot to Deebo who isn't really a deep threat, another was deflected, one was a miss to Kittle and another he got hit as he threw when the DE was right in his face.

I mean I'm not gonna sell he had a great game...but quite a bit of hyperbole in the statement "Fails to meet even the smallest expectations".

I'd ask what the hell are your "smallest expectations".

Right...he didn't look great in his first ever game action. Oh no he will suck forever. What a joke.

He played 3 games last year. 3 years down the road 49er fans will be like “he just needs a few more reps”. You guys treated Jimmy the same way. Basically cupped his balls and kept making excuses for lack of reps and lousy passes

Also had a bone chip in his finger apparently last year in the last preseason game that likely affected throws in the first two games

All hyperbole for 3 drives. Lance had a great game against Houston last year but his first half was not very good. If you would have looked at his first three drives in that game you would probably face the same conclusion. Luckily the games are 60 minutes

Well, Lance looked like an all-pro if the comparison was just between him and Lock, just saying. It would be interesting if 10 games into the season, Geno and Lance had similar stat and performance :)

They probably will. I would not doubt that at all. Both teams will be run first and they will have similar yards, TDs and Ints

He played 2.5 games last year, had 4 TDs 2 INTs and on the season had a 97.3 QB Rating.

I'd be curious how well other rookies played in their first 2.5 games.
