I've finally talked my wife into taking a trip from Cali to Renton for training camp this year. I've been searching for the dates but only found last year's schedule. Anyone have a 2013 training camp schedule handy they could share? Also, any advice about making our experience top notch would be appreciated! I'm super stoked

It's only guessing at this point but it's been the last saturday of july for a while now and I would expect that to probably continue. However the dates/sign up usualy aren't available until around the first week of july. You could probably try to plan something around the first weekend of august and know that something will be available, just make sure you sign up online when you can.

Tips:

Not sure about your age/mobility etc. but you get to camp by parking at a nearby shopping center and packing onto busses. There is only parking at the VMAC if you have a disabled permit and you need to call in advance for those.

There is no real shade to speak of and if it happens to be a hot day it can get pretty intense. They usually sell bottled water there (concessions at the open camps are pretty good in general and fair prices, not like stadium exploit prices) but you may want to bring plenty of your own.

There is a sports authority tent there with seahawks gear and usually a 10% discount so if you plan on picking up any seahawks gear for the season that's a nice time to do it.

You'll pick up quite a bit of 'swag' if you want it so you may want to bring some kind of bag to put stuff in.

bring a blanket to sit on on the grass hill, or bring some folding chairs. Just know it's mostly a hill to view from so chairs are only gonna work in some spots.

Bring binoculars if you have them, you're really close to the field but sometimes some position groups go pretty far away.

don't forget to get a cheesy picture standing in pete carroll's parking spot like my father here.

Thanks! My wife an I are young but our son is 3 so I'm most worried about him not getting bored. Do they have the gates open to leave early if a child meltdown occurs? How long are the practices? Thanks so much for your insight, I can't wait til August!!

the practices are a couple hours I think but i believe they have busses that return to the renton landing (the shopping center you check in/catch the busses at) every 15 or 30 minutes, so you're not just stuck there until it's over. it is just a football practice so probably not too exciting for a 3 year old.

Last year, they had an inflatable kids playground thing. Combine that with the stands selling random stuff and a DJ spinning tunes the whole time, and even a 3-year-old shouldn't be much trouble to handle, honestly.

Very confused by all this.

Training camp is held at the VMAC. The practices are open to the public but require a reservation and payment of a small transportation fee.

In years past there has also been an event in Seattle, typically at CenturyLink, and totally open to the public, no transportation fee.

The two things are TOTALLY different. VMAC has some stuff set up for kids, an area for autographs, etc. The scrimmage type deal at CenturyLink is much more of a big event type deal... lots more people, not nearly as intimate.
