Do you agree?

I wouldn't put him above Brees or Rodgers (yet), but I honestly would take him over Stafford, Cutler, Romo, RGIII, Eli, Cam, and Matt Ryan, who I think are the contenders for that third spot. Of course, as objective as I am trying to be, I still do have homer blood.

What do y'all think?

He also cited some stats about Russell being the most effective down-field passer this year (completed passes more than 20 yards past the LOS?).

Anyone recall that?... or have a source for the data?

TIA.

I just know that if i need to win a game with "X" NFL team, I'm not sure how many guys I'd have above Wilson. The guy is just clutch.

Even in his first few games last year in which we struggled a bit, it's hard to say any of it was due to him.

in the AZ opener he threw several catchable passes. in STL the pick that ended the game was because the receiver fell down when he threw the ball. In SF, our receivers let us down with tons of drops.

Russell is certainly more consistent than any of the QB's you listed after Brees and Rodgers. I watched that Lions game yesterday and was shocked at how horrible Stafford looked in the 4th Qtr. He was 0-10! Sorry, but just throwing it to Megatron in triple coverage will yield at least 2-3 completions.

I hate the idea of "power rankings" or ranking players/teams on a 1 through 32 kind of basis. I think putting them into tiers is a lot more fair.

To that end I'd still have to say that Brees and Rodgers are first tier in the NFC, you just can't argue against their resumes, but after that... I'd definitely say Wilson is tier 2. The only other guys I'd really consider putting on that second tier with him would have to be Stafford and Eli; though they can be so incredibly inconsistent that on some days they look like they belong down on whatever tier that Kaepernick guy is on these days. Cam is building a really solid case for himself as a 2nd tier guy as well now that the wins are coming. I might say Cutler too, but I think Brandon Marshall makes him look significantly better than he really is. He's on the Romo tier IMO.

I think that's fair, but I couldn't subjectively put him above Brady and Manning as well. If you're building a team, thats one way to look at it, but as it stands I'd put him no higher than 5. Remember though, none of the guys above him would have been #5 halfway through their second year...

If not top 3, he's definitely in the top 5:
1. Manning
2. Rodgers
3 - 5 would be any order of Wilson, Brady, or Brees

NFC QBs (starting or injured):

Stafford
Cutler/McCown
Rodgers/Tolzien
Vikings (all stink)

Wilson
Kaep
Palmer
Bradford/Clemens

Manning
RGIII
Foles/Vick
Romo

Ryan
Newton
Brees
Glennon

Manning, Ryan, Newton, RGIII, Romo and Stafford should have been rated higher if they played to what was expected of them, but they haven't. Not sure where Wilson would rate in a more open offense, like a Saints or Packers offensive style.

Bradford and Cutler should have been rated higher due to the investments made in them, but they aren't.

Kaep was thought to be a trend setter by many in the NFL circles but he is having to adjust and right now isn't held with the same regard as he was prior to the start of the season.

I think he isn't stretching it to say Wilson is playing like a top-3 NFC QB. He is not going to get the Top-3 NFL rating because he doesn't produce the volume people need to see to consider him a top-3 NFL QB. Maybe later in his career, when Pete has retired and his team's running game is not as strong/featured.

Will hate seeing Pete gone so not going to think about that right now. :17:

I think he's the best out of the younger generation of QB's, do I think he's better than Manning, Brees, Brady or Rodgers? No, but he's only in his second year.

I think he's Top 5 or 6 in the NFL right now, and considering those guys I mentioned about are all 30-37 (Rodgers turns 30 in a couple of weeks), I'll take Wilson without a doubt.

To throw some perspective to this conversation, last year at this time Wilson was being graded out as one of the top 10-15 QB's. Now he's top 5?

That my friends is some serious growth in just the 2nd year of our QB's career. No reason to think next year at this time we won't be talking about Russell being in the same company as Rodgers, Manning and Brees, and not the next tier below.

I think it's a little early to put Wilson above any of the following four just yet: Brees, Brady, Forehead, Pedostache.

I'd say he's 5th right under them at present, though.

When Wilson has time to throw from the pocket, he's essentially on Manning's level. Under ideal circumstances, Wilson is ridiculously efficient while also boasting one of the league's highest YPAs. Factor in his running ability, escapability, improvisation... his Russell Wilson "magic," and there isn't a QB I'd rather have when playing with protection.

The reason I still put guys like Brees and Manning ahead of Wilson is because those QBs can punish the blitz, whereas Wilson will often concede sacks and struggles to hit safety valves. A ton of that is on Bevell, so maybe it's a weakness Wilson grows out of, but as of right now I think I'd have to put Wilson behind those two QBs because he has something they don't, an exploitable weakness.

For some further perspective, Sam Monson at PFF says that he thinks Wilson is better than Luck and then follows up with this stat from the game:

Wilson was ruthlessly efficient against the Vikings, taking advantage of the situations he found himself in and making plays when things broke down. His passer rating for the game was 151.4, and it was 149.3 when under pressure.

talent wise, i'd put him with any of them, what still seperates him from the top tier usuals is the little things that comes with time and game experience. He will be in that catagory one day, probably sooner than later.

While it's not the same, that is too close to all the "He has all the tools to be the best ever" arguments in favor of Kaepernick throughout the offseason and playoffs last year for my taste.

Let's get Russell a ring, then we can start discussing which of the most elite QBs in the league he is better than, IMO.
