After what I would say is years of futility trying the screen pass, the last few weeks it's actually working! The common dominator I can find is they are running it to the left and Zabel has been absolutely destroying guys as the lead blocker

Amazing that this team couldn't even spell the word "screen" and now these last two weeks, they know how to expertly use it to spring Walker.

This is going to be key against the Rams and other teams in the playoffs.

Key question, should we throw it forward or backward?

If we throw it backwards and can't catch it we can recover and advance it. However, when we run the ball alot the defense will likely have eight in the box likely resulting in a 2 yard loss or turnover.

Was it on the 3rd down and 17 run? There were a lot of great blocks on that play.
Josh Jones was the one guy who didn't land his block, and his man was the one who made the tackle on Walker, without which it was looking a lot like a 75-yard touchdown. Just goes to show how little margin for error there is on these plays.

Let's also appreciate the D's ability to stop a screen which was one thing Pete's teams were terrible at after LOB days

You almost have to throw it behind the line for the simple fact it prevents illegal man downfield on the line. I believe in the NFL they have to stay within one yard of the line of scrimmage until the ball is caught.

IMO the ability to sniff that play out and stop it ended after KJ Wright left

KJ was phenomenal at reading and stopping screen plays. But E3 may be getting there; his TFL on Kittle was a thing of nearly Kam-like beauty.
