Gritty finish. Cishek almost Rodney'd out on us, but got the save.

Late edit: actually good D saved his butt. ;)

And poor D put him in a bad spot. Not sure why DTFT was not in RF for the top of the 9th.

And hey, it was for the division lead, too. Mariners leading the ALWest in April. How long since that has happened?

:th2thumbs:

Well, this late in April? '09 IIRC.

So far I like what I see from the team and the division. The Mariners are about what I expected them to be. I am very surprised to see the Astros struggling as much as they are. They are hitting below .200 with RISP. The A's have to fade at some point right? And I just don't think the Angels or Rangers are that good. The division is very much ours for the taking.

It was a joke. I am happy they are playing decent though.

Cano Grand Slam, Mariners up 9-0. Wow fun to watch, glass is definitely half full right now.
Yeah, good to see Cano make up for his brainfart in the field on the double play ball where he thought there were already 2 outs by hitting the grandslam. Marte and Karns are also having outstanding games tonight.

The Mariners have won all four of their road series so far. Their OPS on the road vs. at home is ridiculous.

Not that I want disaster to strike Safeco or anything, but if something made the Mariners play all the rest of their games on the road, they'd probably make the playoffs.

Why though? Until 2010, safeco wasn't near as hard to hit in for the Mariners. But since then, it's been hell.

It's probably just extreme randomness.

It's pretty crazy that the Mariners are now 11-9 with a team BABIP of .247, which is still easily the worst in baseball. Normally a team with so much bad luck on balls hit into play would be doomed.

Karns looked very confident tonight, he had more strikeouts than baserunners. He won't do this every time out there but he's got that Gil Meche type ability to look like an ace in spurts.

Everyone on the broadcast was saying this was the best all-around win of the season so far and it's easy to agree. For me the best part was seeing Ketel Marte give off flashes of stardom. He went 3-5 with 3 runs scored, made a couple of terrific defensive plays at shortstop and made a brilliant play on the basepaths to score a run and prevent an out. When factoring his bat, his defense, and his baserunning, it was probably the most valuable overall performance by a Mariner this season. And it wasn't like Marte's hits were cheapies either, he was hitting everything pretty hard.

It's pretty exciting to think about how good this team will be when the weather warms up a bit and Seager, Aoki, Lind, and Guti break out of their respective slumps.

Changes in the ownership coming. Howard Lincoln retiring!

Feels like some curses are getting exorcised this season! :)

Hopefully this along with the new GM and skipper turns this franchise around.

It's kind of weird timing. The Mariners are finally surging and he steps down, reminds me of Mike Hargrove back in 2007. I also wonder if he planned to do this right before the NFL draft. I think Howard knew he would garner a lot of attention (not the kind attention he will want, a lot of "hooray he's gone!"), therefore he dropped the news right before the NFL draft, knowing it would get swept under the news cycle.
