Terry Bradshaw Helps Us Make Sense Of Just What the Hell Happened Last Night
"MH: Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has taken a lot of heat for his questionable decision to virtually stop running the ball after the team went up 28-3. What was his biggest play calling blunder?
Bradshaw: When [Falcons receiver] Julio Jones makes that incredible catch in the fourth quarter, the team is in field goal range, and a field goal wins it. All they have to do is get 3 points, because 31 points is just too many to recover from. But then Matt Ryan gets sacked, and the Falcons have a hold called against them, and now they’re out of field goal range. If they just kick the field goal, that game is over.
But overall, they didn’t run, and they just got too aggressive. I told one of the guys that Brady was going to forget the run and just pass, pass, pass for the rest of the game. When that happens, the Falcons pass rush slows down, down, down and the linebackers get tired, tired, tired. And that’s what happened."
