And again its early. I am never the guy to say bench or he is a bust right away. I just was surprised at the rating due to so many people saying he was so good.

I have seen people saying he did good and he looked very good. That is atrocious. He was the worst defender on the field. Hopefully he gets better.

Did you actually watch the game?

PFF grades aren't gospel, by any means. They just aren't. They have their own scale and grades that don't always look at things in a contextually appropriate manner with regard to scheme or other situations.

Anyone who watched the game, especially re-watching parts with special attention paid to Jones, knows he played much better than what we have seen so far outside of that big coverage bust.

Pete all but admitted that wheel route busted coverage was on Adams not Jones to Hugh Millen on 950 yesterday. PFF likely is clueless in that situation is my guess.

The defense was shockingly horrific last week against Minnesota. They were much better this week against SF. I have no doubt that there are many reasons for that. I also have no doubt that this is one of them, regardless of any PFF grades.

Tre Flowers played 100% of the snaps on D against Minnesota, and 0% of the snaps on D against SF (according to Pro-Football-Reference https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... owTr01.htm).

Sidney Jones played 0% of the snaps on D against Minnesota, and 100% of the snaps on D against SF (again, according to Pro-Football-Reference https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... neSi00.htm).

People who are desperate to be right about the Trey Flowers/Sidney Jones competition will quote PFF when it suits them.

I swore some of these same people on here would quote PFF for Ifedi and Tre.

So, you then admit that PFF is of dubious validity based on their tendency to grade Ifedi and Tre above what their performance seems to indicate?

Glad we hashed that out and that you agree.

That is weird due to reporters saying it was on jones and not adams from Pete.

Also, if the implication is that I am a Flowers hater, that's beyond funny. Ask Sports Hernia about that one.

Anyone can see regardless that Jones played a superior game in coverage relative to what Flowers usually puts out.

Can you elaborate here? That's quite a claim and goes against everything else I've heard from press conferences, interviews, media analysis, etc. What did Pete say exactly, and why do you interpret it as "all but admitted?"

It was 3 high coverage and Hugh asked Pete if the safety was suppose to carry the wheel route in that situation like most defenses in that coverage would do. Pete tried to dodge the question but ended saying I won't answer that but I'll just say that wasn't how we intended to cover that play, when the discussion was about Adams.

It wasn't "my interpretation he all but admitted it." It was obvious and everyone on the show said he just admitted it, Millen included. I just agree with the conclusion.

Here.....you decide.

True. You are not a Trey Flowers hater, I will vouch for that.
Your last sentence is spot on as well.

If Trey Flowers played the same game that Sydney Jones just did people would be outraged.

Not happy with that TD, quite disappointed actually, but I am not pissed since this is week 4 after sitting first teamers in preseason games. I would be quite pissed if same happens in week 14.

Nope. Jones while getting burned a couple times, still made more plays in one game than Flowers did in 3 games.

I don’t get the “white knighting” for a severely underperforming player (see Flowers).
Look, I’m sure he (Flowers) is a wonderful human being and a nice guy, I don’t doubt that for a minute…. But, his number 1 job is coverage, something he is piss poor at.

Tre Flowers vs. Minn
7 targets 6 completions 60 yards 10 yards per comp and 0td 7 tackles

Sidney Jones vs. 9er’s
10 targets 8 completions 121 yards 15.1 yards per comp 1td? And 7 tackles

I like Jones and think he will be a positive for the team but first game not withstanding it doesn’t appear to be a huge upgrade. In three games Tre has been a liability yet only allowed 1 td. Jones allowed a 150 completion rating, higher than any of the 3 games Tre started.
The Hawks will need all the depth they have through the season so they really need both players to elevate their game. Maybe in a lesser role Tre can find a way to contribute.

Oh you were just talking about Pete's press conference. I saw that, and it certainly wasn't obvious to me at all that Pete was "admitting" it was on Adams. To me it was clear that Hugh wanted to know who to blame, and Pete didn't want to thrown one of his players under the bus, regardless of who may have blown their assignment.

From what you've shared, someone with a clear anti-Jamal Adams trade agenda (Rob Staton) is regurgitating an interpretation by another person with a clear anti-Jamal Adams trade agenda (Hugh Millen), and you (not sure what your position is on the Jamal Adams trade but if I had to guess you don't/didn't like it) are interpreting it as "Pete all but admitted it."

Unless there is some other audio that I missed and you didn't share, IMO it wasn't obvious at all. It was obvious that Pete was protecting his player(s), which is what he should do, but it was not obvious at all which player(s) it was.

Logically, it makes more sense to me that a journeyman corner who has been with the team a month and is getting his first ever playing time with the team would be more likely to blow an assignment than a 3X pro bowler who has been playing with the team for over a year, but I'm still not going to draw any conclusions.

For the record, I stopped reading SeahawksDraftBlog because Staton has become so agenda-driven that it's become unreadable. Yes, I get that he's a draft fanatic and therefore he doesn't like it when we give up picks for players, but I'm tired of listening to him trying to prove he's right more than a year after the fact. I like listening to Hugh but he is often guilty of drawing conclusions without complete knowledge and he's been called out multiple times by the players for being dead wrong. He'd do well to have some humility and admit that he's often drawing conclusions based on assumptions that he can't verify.

Lastly, Pete dodged this question, but he often dodges questions even when he's not protecting his players - why would he give other teams any kind of insight in to how they like to play certain situations? If he says "yes, we always have the curl flat player covering the slot carry the wheel route. That's how we do it every time." It's ridiculous to think he would want to answer that question, regardless of the players involved.

Take out the busted coverage that may or may not have even been his fault and those numbers look different

Attribute for the fact he was making his first start with the team and it skews it even more

Sometimes you have to trust your eyes. Jones just looked different in coverage. If you missed that, I'm sorry.
