Who’s it gonna be game 1? My prediction:
DJ Reid and TBD…
Trade? Waiver wire? ________?

If I was ranking teams, I'd have that around 35th among 32 teams. We had better have a pass rush this year.

Here we go.. evaluating CBs individually when the secondary is a pure team group...

You have a group, but you still need to cover, make your reads, defend a ball in the air, not get sucked in by moves etc.

It’s not though, that’s a cop out. The secondary is based on individuals.

When you are on a island guarding a receiver it is an individual thing.
When you don’t play the ball because your head isn’t turned, it is an individual thing.

If a corner is in man coverage and everyone else covers their man except that one guy and he gets beat because he doesn’t play the ball because his head isn’t turned, how is that everyone else’s fault when they all did their individual jobs correctly???

I guess it’s the entire groups fault Flowers never turns his head to find the ball?

It's not a pure team group. More like the team is only as strong as its weakest link, and right now, Tre Flowers is that weak link. If the preseason did anything, it was that it exposed Flowers fatal flaw of not having that 6th sense to determine when to look for the ball. As we speak, our opposing OC's and QB's are looking at that film and are drooling over the possible matchups and will isolate him, throw sideline timing patterns with their best leaping, ball hawking WR.

Our weakness at cornerback means that we're going to have to get pressure from our front 4 as having to depend on the blitz means that we'd be in a lot of man coverage, and we simply don't have the cornerbacks to hang with NFL quality WR's.

Should be interesting. But if we have the bottom of the league secondary then maybe we shouldn’t pay the players like they are in the top of the league. After Diggs who else is going to hold out to “get his”?

Lmao perfect.

I vote for Witherspoon and Reed as starters to begin the season.
Although they should evaluate them constantly and not be afraid to change the lineup if we're not getting the desired results.
I'd also like to see Blair start at Nickel.

Also, I sincerely hope they ask the corners to play press more often early in the season, not playing 10 yards off.
Pass rush will also have an obvious impact on their coverage.

Their Sydney Jones trade was just the type of thing I expected John and Pete to do. I don’t think they are done procuring talent yet for the CB position. They will be scouring the waver wire for potential CB talent. I fully expect a WTF type of move sometime within the next week. The Jones trade was a a good move but I think they might have a bigger something up their sleeves. They almost always do.

Hoping we get the CB problem handled, but relying on the waiver wire at this stage is not the place we want to be in....

Agree on your waiver wire statement. That’s why I think we will see a big(ish) move sometime soon.

I agree. We kept all 5 running backs, and my guess is that JS will be using one of them, most likely Penny, as a bargaining chip to get us some help at other positions.

We also kept 3 QB's and just 4 WR's. IMO this current 53 man roster won't stay intact very long. Stay tuned.
