You seem like a weak man who wants to run a game and do ZERO work.

To be clear:

When I ran games here on .NET

I OWNED my game. I ran it and controlled it. I did NOT ask others to do the work. That kinda seems like socialism.

So, if you want to run your game, OWN it.

This will be fun and successful for those that choose to play.

They will interact with other community members, and a few/3 will win a nice prize.

I’m 100% positive that there are ways to have a contest that requires less effort from the contestants, but “less effort” was never a consideration here or in previous contests.

I/we offer up these prizes on our own dime, and it’s done strictly to generate community involvement.

This particular contest has been open for discussion and ideas for weeks, and although I appreciate the offers and suggestions to hold our contest off site, I have zero interest in our membership having to navigate away from .net to play. (Even if, that means they have to make a small time investment to participate)

No hard feelings on my part that you chose not to play, and I’m confident that you have run successful contests.

I get it, this one takes a bit of effort and time investment.

IMO, that only makes winning a bit sweeter.

YMMV

@RedAlice

“A weak man”

Seriously?

You want to make this personal?

Seems odd that anyone would do so, but I suppose I’m not actually surprised.

Good Day, and I hope you change your mind and decide to play.

"sad to see your “out”, but it pretty much aligns with what society has evolved into"

---

and btw, this is what I was responding to.

I disagree about your comment about "society" when I am talking about a game here on .Net

I think YOU are a SOCIALIST.

---

I am editing this post to say this: I have been a part of a game on a different (non football) board for almost two decades now. We run this game as you are explaining: the posters make their picks on the board as a post.

Someone tracks it.

All of the comments are a part of the board, no third party site is used.

It is: REALLY FUN. WE LOVE IT.

But, there is a person tracking it while the others post their picks. It was successful for two decades. But someone was in charge and doing the work. You seem to want the game without the work.

If nothing else, I appreciate the dialogue.

Still would love to see you change your mind and be willing to put a little effort into participating.

And for the record, I simply don’t have the time to make the week to week season long commitment to “keeping score”.
As I’ve already stated, I believe enough in this community to hold a contest of this nature and police/score it ourselves.

I don’t get it, but I get it. Hence my comment about society. Folks these days pretty much want whatever they can get for as little time, money, or effort as possible
Making a prediction and coming back to post your score is a lot.
Then again the prize we offer up from our collections are pretty decent

Again, I appreciate the conversation, sorry you feel like you can’t participate.

Kinda wondering why you didn’t just not play, but had to come announce how you were “out” due to the work required to play?
This also relates to my opinion of what society has become.

Cool.

Save this.

I’m going to start a thread dedicated to the contest only.

We certainly don’t need to sort through all of this to get started.

Don’t forget your tie breakers

1st) total points for Seahawks
2nd) total points against

Do we have place to post our predictions yet?

Not yet.

In the next day or so, I’ll un-sticky this thread and start a new thread dedicated to “the contest”.

I will start us off with a re-cap of the rules, and everyone can start with their week #1 predictions

Thank you.

Although this contest does absolutely nothing for myself, other mods/admins, or the ownership of .net.

It’s certainly goes a long way towards building comrades on the site, and bolsters the “community” feel/vibe.

Best o luck

Cool and thank you.

Please post up asap, so that we can establish 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes.

So far, 1st will be the bad ass Largent “throw back” offered up by @AROS

2nd will be one of the 2 rookie cards offered up by @RehireMora and the zippo and wine stopper from my collection

3rd will be the other rookie card offered up by @RehireMora

@CostaRicaHawk

Made a perfect post in regards to how this should be on a weekly basis.

Please all, if you have any doubts please refer.

The only caveat I can think of is, please return after that week’s games and edit you post to reflect your score.
Then carry that score/total to your post the following week.

I get it, as pointed out already, this does require a bit of effort and also leaves room for cheating.

I don’t believe cheating will be an issue, I do believe the effort required only makes winning a bit more sweet.

My hope is, that this will be fun for all involved.
I’m looking forward to some friendly banter and fun poking.

Good luck to everyone involved.

I’ll un- stick this thread and post the dedicated one later tonight.

It might be a little late now with the first game just two days away, but why don't you just create a Pick-um league on the Yahoo website?

I think it's a great idea and it's nice of you guys to offer up prizes. I'll see if I can give it a try, but it's inevitable that I'll forget to make my picks one week. That's what I like about Yahoo's format. You could make all your picks for the entire 18-week regular season in one sitting if you wanted to.

Thanks for the input.

Your suggestion has been made a few times now.
Although there are certainly some benefits to that, I decided that I don’t like the idea of folks having to navigate to another site to play “our” contest.

I get it, there certainly is an investment to be made by the contestant, I truly believe keeping everything right here is best.

This may end up being a learning experience, and we may end up going back to something similar to what we’ve done previously.

Bottom line is, there are some very nice prizes to be had.

I believe wholeheartedly that those that choose to play with have a good time doing so.

If not, I’ll eat the crow.

This isn’t the thread we will be using.

Later tonight I’ll un-stick this thread and start a new one dedicated to the contest.

Save/copy paste your predictions.

Remember to post your tie breakers

1st) total points for
2nd) total points against
Seahawks

Just to clarify on the tie breakers, does it matter if you are over or under?
For example if two people get the same number of predictions right one predicts the Hawks score 500 points and the other 460 and they actually get 480 it goes on to the second tiebreak.

Also originally it was said we had until week 4 to make our tiebreaker predictions but the last post implied we should include it with out week 1 predictions.

Is it OK to edit my week 1 post based on the answers to the above. I would obviously like to only commit to my tiebreaker choice until I have more information.

I’ll say just whoever is closest.
I don’t expect needing a tie breaker but it would be completely unexpected to need the second on.

Yes feel free to edit your post.
I originally said week 4 to give folks an accurate feel for what’s going on. I honor/stick to that.

The first post in the contest thread was edited to address this
