He’d be playing the Rams backups, so what would you really be learning?

There’d be more relevant info in his game tape from his Commanders stint than playing 2nd or 3rd stringers.

Start either Howell or Hall.

Geno has nothing to prove by being out there against the Rams' backups. Worst case, he screws up his knee worse or suffers another injury and suddenly he's not practicing with the team in the offseason and there will be questions about how well he can come back from it.

I know Geno has contract escalators that are reportedly within reach. If the team thinks he can reasonably hit those, just rework his contract and give him that money anyway. It'd be a good showing of trust and goodwill.

We didn't trade for him as a finished product. His Commanders tape won't show us his growth under our coaches and tell how well he's picking up our system. Not that it's a perfect situation for that either, but he has more to prove by being out in a glorified preseason game than Geno does.

What exactly about Howell’s recent performance against Green Bay screams “we definitely want to see more of this!”?

And no, 2 practices with the 1’s this week with half the team NIR resting is going to make a huge difference. They likely already know what they have with Howell.

So Hall then? We know what we have with Geno too. Nothing he could do against the Rams' backups should change anything about him.

From a fan’s perspective, sure we want to see something different-there’s always the curiosity with the unknown. For the coaches and JS’ staff though, they see these guys every day all year and know what their future is with the team. I think Hall was just an emergency QB signing for the tail end of the season.

There’ll definitely be some QB changes in the offseason I’m guessing and that’s where the anticipation will come as to just what they do.

How many more red zone interceptions to trigger that escalator? Sit him and don’t rework his contract. He may not be the main reason we are sitting out the post season, but he has culpability.

Ok, let's just not start a quarterback then.

I would hope that he's already hit that escalator. His agent needs to be fired if he negotiated it to be even more. Geno has been trying hard and getting even more red zone INTs just seems unrealistic.
