So, I've been hearing a different tune from Texans fans...

Being mired in "Texans Land" affords me an interesting existence as a die-hard Seattle Seahawks fan living away from my hometown in Washington. As I usually have on a Seahawks cap and have select team items prominently displayed throughout the shop, I am subject to various verbal assaults which I shrug off with a professional smile. On an almost everyday basis, I get comments related to my being a fan of the "wrong team". Seriously? Give me a break, I am clearly a fan of the correct NFL football team and stand my ground being as tactful as possible. Lately, comments related to the upcoming Seahawks/Texans game in week four are starting to surface with a vengeance.

Yesterday, I had occasion to take a client's vehicle to the exhaust shop for some repairs. The shop owner is a friend, and is a guy with Texans banners all over the place and has a waiting room strewn with autographed pictures and stuff just like me. The guys that work for him are just as involved and opinionated. Thing I got from them as I walked through the door? "Hey man, are you going to the Super Bowl preview game in September?" No "wrong team" razzing, no "dude, you've got the wrong color on bro", and no "we don't serve your kind around here" comments, only a simple question that oozed of respect. A definite shift in the dynamic has occurred down here, so I thought I'd share.

Had a great conversation with the guys there about the upcoming season. Got a lot of Russell Wilson and Percy Harvin respect along with a genuine consensus that it is going to be a Texans/Seahawks championship this year. They are talking about that game as being THE game, and the one they are re-scheduling their lives around. They're not worried about Indy, they are not worried about the new-look Jags, no concern for the Pats, or any other NFC teams, they are making sure to position themselves for the Seattle Seahawks.

I'm curious: Anybody getting similar vibes from opposing-team's fans in your non-Seahawks locale?

Great story.

My recent one.

I went down to San Diego. Met a die hard 9er fan. We jabbed each other for awhile. "42-13","who made it farther" yada yada. The conversation was peaceful. He sees kaep as the MVP next year. I laughed. But regardless, at the end of the discussion I was able to get him to admit, had Russell been their QB for the last 4 downs of the Super Bowl, the 9ers would have been world champs.

I cried a little when he said that.

Oh, and I failed to mention that in all that discussion yesterday, not a peep about PEDs.

Weird...

I was in Houston back in February the week before the Superbowl for a captains meeting. After the meetings we went out for dinner at some steak house somewhere in Channelview. I was wearing my Seahawks polo coaches style shirt. As we were leaving some dude, he did not work at the restaurant, opened the door for me and said "let me get the door for the Seahawk fan" after which I yelled a mighty "GO HAWKS!"

Respect

That's because Texans fans - unlike the Whiners morons - are bright enough to realize every team has players that do PED's.

I worked a project last year with a coworker who is a diehard Cowboys fan. During preseason, when I was espousing Russell Wilson as the saviour of our football team, this guy was telling me how his Cowboys were a cut above our Seahawks in every conceivable way. This dude was your stereotypical insufferable Cowboys fan. I preached on about how Russ would win the starting QB job and move on to dominate the league, and this guy would openly laugh at the notion.

Well, let's just say he became a HUGE Seahawks fan after we kicked their asses in week two.

So you really told him that Russell Wilson was going to dominate the league? Honestly? You must be some kinda psychic or a 1st class bull$hitter.

I think I know which one

For whatever reason, the Texans don't scare me as long as the have Schaub as QB. Russ will be able to deal with the likes of JJ Watt.

There was also a rookie WR for the Texans who wanted to go 1v1 against Sherman.

Or the fact that they are up there themselves with Cushing being a somewhat key player being one of them.........

I work for a school and often have to travel from Seattle to different parts of the country. Three years ago I was in Pensacola Fl. checking out of my hotel and the guy behind the counter jokingly told me I needed to toss my Seahawks hat in the trash. I told him it takes time to build a winner and that the Hawks were better than any team in Fl at the time. Three years ago for obvious reasons little or no respect at all.

Last month I was in Orlando sporting my Hawks attire as always, and received several positive comments consisting of "Man, the Hawks were so close," "That Wilson, what a force to be reckoned with" "With the addition of Harvin and improvement on the D-Line, Hawks should dominate." Met a dude at Walmart who lived in Seattle and was a season ticket holder a few years ago, he was bummed he wasn't back in Seattle to experience this. I told him the vibe in PacNorWest is unbelievable right now, like nothing I've ever seen before.

Also, I sport my Lynch or Thomas Jersey and Hawks ball cap through airports when I travel, I've definitely been getting a different look from people, even a few nods from other teams fans.

There has definitely been a paradigm shift across the country.

I've been wearing Seahawks colors since moving to Arlington, TX from Seattle four years ago. For the first three years I either got little or no response or gentle ribbing. For the most part, the Seahawks were a team they didn't get worked up about one way or another. That really started changing in the second half of the season last year, especially after the Hawks curbstomped the 49ers on national TV. Now when I wear a Seahawks shirt I get a lot of comments from people, most of them positive. Even the Cowboys fans at work have started to give some grudging respect to them. It's not just Russell Wilson, it's the smashmouth style of play that is earning their respect. I've had more than one Cowboys fan say they wish Jerry Jones could build a team that played football like the Seahawks.

See what I mean? People are going out of their way to do and say nice things for us Hawks folk.

It feels good at the top, right?

Welcome aboard friend, keep up the posting!

Thankfully, I don't see as many cowpoke fans around, save for my idiot ex-neighbor who goes out of his way to annoy. They are sprinkled-about here and there, though, and have the big silver stars in the rear window of the pickup to semi-hide the gun rack. It's good to hear there are some opened-minded folks in your workplace who recognize a quality football team when they get pounded by one. :)

Could be a lot worse...
