I get it, people have zero empathy for anyone that’s not like them. Fact is many many people have special needs children and not only is that an immensely hard thing to deal with they also have to deal with people who use and make excuses for others using derogatory terms.

"Retarded" hasn't always been considered derogatory. Back when I was growing up in the 60's, It was a commonly used clinical term used to describe a mental or intellectual disability. I have a couple of friends that have mentally handicapped children that I really have to watch myself and not commit a slip of the tongue. I'm not complaining about forcing political correctness on boomers like myself or anything like that, rather pointing out that one has to recognize the changes in social mores, both for a person like myself as well as others in younger generations that grew up in a different society than I did.

I used to use the "going full retard" comment, or something similar to it myself, but I didn't direct it at a mentally handicapped individual, I directed it at a supposedly normal person that was acting stupidly. I suspect that this was the case in the OP. That's not an excuse, just an explanation.

So then it's safe to assume that every time you hear someone say Jesus Christ when they are angry you will stop them in their tracks and let them know how that offends Christians.

I appreciate a reasoned response. My original post was neither sensitive nor condescending. I’m a seventies child and have been guilty of using many words under the guise of humor. Now I’m grown and can understand how some might take offense to this word in particular. Does that mean I think people should be stoned for using it …. no. But is it to much to ask that society evolve away from childish and demeaning tropes.

I would guess those defending the OP are also ok with many other derogatory terms…

As for his claim of inciting tears, none here. I have however seen tears on my nieces face after being belittled and demeaned with the same word. So if you feel you need to use the word to get a laugh, do what you do. Just know that it does have genuine effects on real human beings…not just sensitive woke condescending douche’s

it was humor, and not directed towards anyone, especially not to anyone with “special needs”.

I too have a niece with CP (cerebral palsy) shes a full grow adult in her 30s now. She’s been wheel chair bound/total care since birth.
I understand the issues with words like retard, and I’d defend my niece with quickness if any one called her a retard.

I didn’t call anyone a retard, and if you actually read the first two posts, I was directing the term to MYSELF in a satirical manner.

If this truly gets your dander up, I suggest you stay away from any comedy clubs, and you might want to turn off your television. Hell you maybe should become a hermit living off grid somewhere.

For the record, retard and **** were both banned words under the former ownership (during my first tenure), current ownership lifted that ban and decided that the use of those words would be acceptable unless used in an attacking manner. Pretty certain nobody is feeling attacked by this.

There may be a valid argument there but if you had been keeping up, ole Johnny has done some pretty stupid stuff, and I don’t think he has it all out of his system yet.

I do honestly think I’d rather him than Colin though, I didn’t care for him even before he went all social justice league on us.

This makes no sense.

If the Seahawks think they have no chance to keep Wilson or he is going to be out too long - they need to trade for Minshew because he is one of the few QBs that can deal with the iffy protection and run the weird offense that Pete wants to run.

The nice part is he doesn't have the arm strength for that stupid 'Toxic Differential' that Pete insists on despite the impact on W/Ls it actually provides. So thankfully at least we would avoid that.

I don't think we would be much a playoff team with Minshew but I think we at least would not be a dumpsterfire like we are going to be without Wilson and without a competent QB.
