Should Hawks look to extend DK Metcalf this offseason?

I know he's only in year two but I wonder if it wouldn't be a bad idea for the Hawks to look to extend Metcalf sooner rather then wait. I also know that there are other players who need to be locked up too but Metcalf is a special player that if we wait until his deal is up could be verrry expensive. Thoughts?

If this was baseball (yes) but with the cap being unknown
and sure to drop a lot,how can you at this point?
We have control for 5 years right?Plus 2 franchise tags?
He is going to get paid big time if he keeps trending up
by year 4 but no need to do after year two..
Plus you ever notice a lot of players sign deals early and
get upset that they are below highest?Hence comes the
ugly side that we saw with a few guys.

Control for 4 years, he was a second rounder not a first

There's zero benefit to the team in extending him so soon. He's not a first rounder either so we get more out of that rookie deal. It'd be a bad move.

I don't think he can be extended until he completes 3 years of service. He'll be the highest paid WR in the league when we do though.

That's what I thought...I didn't think it was even possible.

At the rate he's playing, he probably will be the 'highest paid WR' in the league. It's gonna hurt, but you don't let the best go. Hopefully he'll love it here so much he and his agent will be 'reasonable.'

Correct. We couldn’t extend even if we wanted to. Gotta wait his first 3 seasons. We have him for 4 seasons. No 5th year option. That only applies to 1st rd picks.
