Short yardage issues

The team needs help in the trenches. Cannot get off the ball to gain even the shortest of yards.

Today, they had 5 tries to get into the end zone and could not. We’re getting beat off the ball and getting embarrassed with our lack of physicality. Something needs to change. I said this in the gameday forum, and then I just read this on ESPN:

Early prediction for next week: Defensive tackle Byron Murphy II will be used as a fullback. They've got to do something different in short-yardage situations, a season-long issue that hurt them again versus the Jets. They came away empty-handed despite running five plays from the 1-yard-line in the third quarter. Murphy, the rookie first-round pick, played some fullback in college.

I never knew that about Byron, but at this point anything is better than what we’re doing now.

We need to draft trenches next year and make it a priority. This team is soft and not being able to get a yard sucks.

We're using Jalen Sundell in that role. Didn't really help unfortunately. It's just details. The offense lacks fundamental chemistry. The details are all wrong. They're out of sync constantly.

I don't think Grubb is going to last. I don't think Mac is happy with him.

1) Plays are telegraphed based on their personnel and formations (Grubb issue)
2) Play designs are not good in the redzone (Shotty was much better here)
3) Can't get any push even with "jumbo" package (personnel / JS issue)
4) Geno spazzes out in the redzone (throws picks and has bad timing / accuracy)

The offense is completely dysfunctional. It's amazing they've won 3 in row even with great defense. If something doesn't change for the better then I don't know how many more of these they are going to be able to pull out.

Would like to see motion and a kick out block. If Geno connects with Fant this game would have been a bit different.

Mahomes and stafford are always on the move especially in the red zone. It just keeps the play alive. I hated our red zone passes cause they were so bang bang. That slant play had a tiny window of opportunity and if it wasn’t there, which it wasn’t, the play was doomed. Also the fade, happens so fast if it ain’t there the play is doomed. And all our runs were from jumbo. No deception and geno is no threat to run, ever…. Which is a crime. Roll out please. It extends the play and rolling with crossers opens the window of opportunity and timing to multiple options and the play is not based on perfection of instant one shot execution. Roll

Wasn't in the red zone, but I nearly lost it on that play at midfield where Geno evaded like five defenders, was looking like Eli Manning in the Super Bowl, rolled way out to the left, and the ball ended up at the feet of a TE about five yards past the line of scrimmage. It was the most anticlimactic thing ever.

Yep, and another one with two pulling guards and he ran into the pressure…

Maybe he shouldn’t roll out cause that would just increase his stress on each play and lead to more mistakes. He is at his best when he can stand perfectly still

The one successful break down play was the pass to JSN but I really give JSN the credit on that play for moving into a place where geno just had to get it near him and JSN run under it

There's no secret here. Outside of the QB position the Seahawks don't have short yardage personnel at the skill positions. That's not to say they don't have good players. You absolutely don't need a specialist KR or PR. You DO need a receiver who can make contested 2 yard receptions and fall forward or glance off a hit for those extra inches when needed. You do need a RB who can find a tiny gap and not go down on 1st contact. You need 1 or 2 specialists in ugly football.

Just spread em out on 3rd and 4th and short. Just know who you are and do what gives you the best chance of success.

Just repeatedly give it to Zach. Dude is light on in his feet for a big man, but can bulldoze his way thru trash to.

K9 just isn't big enough for running up the middle.

I swear, Mac needs to call Schotty and pay him whatever he wants for the playbook he ran here.

Grubb just isnt ist. The plays we run are DOA, unless you get Geno and JSN hooking up on some improv occassionally.

Most throws to Dk look forced and if they are short yardage, he looks disinterested and either runs soft routes or is covered like a glove.

M Brown and Griff touched on how when we DO get a big pass play, its usually because the qb is working outside the play.

Its not often we drop back and hit something other than a dig, slant or out on the first or second read.

There simply just isnt much there.
