I know I am definitely on the other end of this but I thought Rashid was more important than Walker. RBs are a dime a dozen. For the most part. I get it that KWIII was special and he definitely was. But it's easier to replace him than Rashid, IMHO.
There we go.. dime a dozen, yeah they are, the crappy ones , so are crappy receivers. Walker is not a dime a dozen and the fact that we didn't keep him or at least get a replacement, ala Enteime (*sp?) who was affordale, has to tickle the hell out of McVay and Shannahan. Too, We have Horton and he's a very competent returner and it's gonna be a helluva thing watching both of them taking kickoffs.

I’ll play a little…

As your post is written, I’m not going to entirely disagree. You can’t justify paying a kick returner 17m a year. No one can. I’ll also concede that he was ineffective as a WR considering the draft capital we gave up. When I looked at the number of catches he had for us during the regular season, it wasn’t much (15 catches, 188 yards, and zero TD’s).

However….

We didn’t sign a KR, we signed a WR that never really got into the groove coming in mid season. I’m also not sure we designed many plays to take advantage of his skill set.

I think he was re-signed because both Mac and JS know what he is capable of as a WR coming in with a full off season of planning and preparation. I predict he will have WR numbers commensurate with his contract while also continuing to turn games with stellar returning efforts.

We are paying for what he will do as a WR, not for what he did do playing under a limited scope.

If he has RECEIVING numbers next year that are similar to last year, then I’ll probably be the first to agree that it was an overpay. I just have a feeling he will be far more productive next year.
Too, though he played a light part in the receiving part, teams had to respect him and stretch out the field of play for short/mid passes. He also, was pretty good on the jet sweeps.

Allgeier signed with the Cards unfortunately. Somehow, the FA RB market has gone dry in less than a day lol.
Well f*ck me then. 😂

Anyone left for them to go for?

Is Etienne still an option or are we going to have to take our chances with Holani and MacIntosh?

Without Shaheed, there wouldn’t be any SB, pay the guy

He is a game changer
Winner, winner... Chicken dinner. I see Shaheed as what this organization wanted Percy Harvin to be for us. Unfortunately, Percy's contributions were short lived. I feel elated because I think we're going to see what we missed out on with Percy's explosiveness for a much longer period of time. Much, much more to come with Rashid. This has only just begun. If Horton is able to get physically right? Look out baby.

So far, Shaheed's attitude and personality leave Percy in the dust. Harvin had skills, but poor mental strength.

Jacardia Wright has some serious potential. There's also Velus Jones and Cam Akers in addition to the obvious best two after Z.C. at this point, George Holani and Kenny McIntosh. Once Charbonnet is able to get back, he's our primary back of course. I think the remaining names are interesting and have a chance to step up. Health is always an issue, some more than others.

I'd rather keep improving the line, and get Outz involved more. Then, roll with a number of these guys. McIntosh seemed to have some strong potential but gotta see if his body will hold up. This might be his last chance.

We'll see what the draft might bring as well as other ways of obtaining another back. Cut down time is late, but might be a good time to grab someone with this years team if the others can't stay healthy.

He's a Saint now. Dowdle's a Steeler. Gainwell's a Buc. It's down to guys like Joe Mixon, Austin Ekeler, Isiah Pachecho, and Najee Harris.

Etienne signed with NO for 4 yrs/$52M or $13M/ average.
Not disappointed at all by missing out on him or Allgeier. If you don't want K9 for $15M/, then Etienne for $13M/ seems out of the question.
Not sure what the plan at RB is, but JS will have to pull something out of his hat.

Sure, I agree. It still surprises me. I didn't expect us to offer him more than $7-8MM a year.
The above might be funny to some, but I don't recall anyone predicting $17MM a year for Rashid. For those who did, you might want to apply to JS for an assistant's position. At the very least, gloat a little and quote your earlier $$$ predictions.

Nah, John just overpaid.

The first day winners and losers are out and there isn't 1 article of the Seahawks winning, most of them have JS losing. It's was a rough start, but JS never starts strong, he picks up the scraps later to stay under budget.

"Losers: Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks experienced some key drain with Walker, edge rusher Boye Mafe and safety Coby Bryant leaving after the Super Bowl. That adds to Klint Kubiak being in Las Vegas. Of the players they kept, they might have overpaid a little for Rashid Shaheed with Kubiak's scheme gone. Josh Jobe also got re-signed as their weakest corner."

Of course. My point was made knowing all of the regulars in this forum that know my posts enough assume that. I was trying to keep it as positive as possible and point to the on field comparison for explosive plays.

Thus the fallacy of grading out free agency on the first day. 🤷‍♂️

Get back to me in a couple of weeks for an overall assessment.

That’s a laughable and bogus take thinking Shaheed can only have value in a Kubiak offense and even more calling Jobe our weakest corner. That dude absolutely earned a starting spot. I was listening to some quotes today on him and some of the NFL receivers were saying pound for pound he was the strongest corner they went against last year.

Same guy probably called Demarcus Lawrence washed last year…

Hard to call us a “Loser” on Day 1 when the game has just begun. Plenty more to come - I’ve never trusted the franchise more to be honest.

Those 4 names are actually kinda interesting. I still like the guys we have already. My dark horse... Jacardia Wright.

Focus more on the trenches. Keep building the O-line.

The same writers who hyped the free agents pre-signing have to continue to hype them post-signing, right?
