He did nothing as a WR. Do *you* watch the games? They had to try to force him into the game same as when they traded for Harvin, and even ran the same stupid reverses. He was a terrible fit for our offense, and to re-sign him after watching him fail his audition is a serious error in judgment from Schneider.

He is the 4th or 5th best WR on our roster. Name one other team that even pays their 3rd best receiver $17M. There is no way to justify his salary, and it will raise JSN's asking price.

If Shaheed is worth $17M, JSN is easily $60M
he was a key piece for the SB

He was a proven receiver before coming here. They didn’t throw to him much, that can change with more practice

AND 17M seems to be a lot for you but that is just about what they pay for a high end WR3 , he is not even making WR 2 money for god sake. Stop freaking out.

Not a bad deal at all, good value for a ST beast. He'll need to step up as the No.2 this season, which I have no doubt he can/will. If he can match what Kupp did last year as a WR, he'll be golden.

$51 over 3 years is $17 million a year

Right guy but at the wrong price.

With kickers dropping 60 plus yard field goals like it's nothing, having him back is as close to a guaranteed 3 points as you can get.

Did you even watch the NFL season last year or is this a troll post?

I'm stoked. Kept Sheed and Jobe. It's a good day.
Keeping Sheed (and Jobe) improves the real shot at "Running it back" this season (and the next and the next).

All we need now is to get a serviceable Running Back (I'm guessing Allgeier) and our offense is set.

I'm guessing him and darnold will be glued to the hip this offseason to get the passing game going between them otherwise that's a pricey returner.

I do wonder if this means they wait a year to pay jsn, 5th year option him and pay next year when kupp if off the books. The only other receiver that resets the market is nacua.

Pay Witherspoon and hall this year?

Allgeier signed with the Cards unfortunately. Somehow, the FA RB market has gone dry in less than a day lol.

Terrible signing. Absolutely terrible. He's worth $7-9M per.
How do you justify paying a returner $17M? One of the worst signings of the FA period so far.

If Shaheed is worth $17M then JSN can justifiably say he's worth $70M

We all trust JS - this is his second round of 'season after a Super Bowl' and I am 100% certain he's doing everything (or really close to it) damned near perfectly.

I love Rasheed. Giving this more thought (while suffering through gf movie), it seems that Rasheed's basically a 'new position' that doesn't have a pay scale defined yet: a combination of super-stud return specialist, end-around guy to make the running backs more effective, deep ball threat to make Kupp and JSN more effective, and hopefully, a legitimate wide receiver who gets 60 or so targets this season.

How many unique positions are there like this? McCaffrey is the only one who comes to mind.
I don't recall McCaffrey returning Punts or Kick-offs but yeah...that's the closest in Comp in terms of what Sheed does.

He's a unicorn in that aspect.

When you think of it in those terms, I can see why he was given what he was given.

I feel like we just won the SB again.

Expensive, but no fumbles on KRs and PRs like with Dee Williams and Laviska Shenault. Always a threat to take it to the house. Full offseason to work with Darnold. I'm excited!
AND....Insurance for Horton whom we don't know if he'll remain healthy or not throughout his career.

So the Rams sign Trent McDuffie to cover JSN, now all you have to do is have him split his time shadowing Jaxon AND Shaheed, yeah, good luck with that, OH AND! here comes Horton!
I fear Christian Gonzalez faaaar more than Trent McDoofus.

I’ll play a little…

As your post is written, I’m not going to entirely disagree. You can’t justify paying a kick returner 17m a year. No one can. I’ll also concede that he was ineffective as a WR considering the draft capital we gave up. When I looked at the number of catches he had for us during the regular season, it wasn’t much (15 catches, 188 yards, and zero TD’s).

However….

We didn’t sign a KR, we signed a WR that never really got into the groove coming in mid season. I’m also not sure we designed many plays to take advantage of his skill set.

I think he was re-signed because both Mac and JS know what he is capable of as a WR coming in with a full off season of planning and preparation. I predict he will have WR numbers commensurate with his contract while also continuing to turn games with stellar returning efforts.

We are paying for what he will do as a WR, not for what he did do playing under a limited scope.

If he has RECEIVING numbers next year that are similar to last year, then I’ll probably be the first to agree that it was an overpay. I just have a feeling he will be far more productive next year.
