Looking forward to finding out if Servais was the biggest problem or if the players Servais had to work with are the biggest problem.

I mean, if it was Servais, not the players, then we should see much better results and much better play out of these guys now that Servais is gone, right?
Right.

I love the idea of getting Edgar back in the fold, curious as to what the dynamic in him transitioning to a “consultant” type role was?

The fact that they are going with Dan Wilson and Edgar Martinez means this is coming from management. They’re going over Dipotos head on this one. Have to think his time is limited. Ownership remains the root problem if you ask me.
Dipoto was Scotts buddy from the Angels, above management had to do something
like two weeks ago.

Season ended after the Detroit series.

Is this a hire to try and drag fans back in?

We’d have to get to 90 wins minimum to sniff the post season imo…26-8 in the final 34 games? Good luck with that.

The Angels are a shit show and have been since Dipoto left yet no Angels fan ever wants him back. They think he was awful.

I think he's done good for the most part .. Stanton will not let him sign big $$$
I like his drafting and most trades.

Scott Servais learned of his firing this morning from a breaking news alert on social media, a couple hours before he was scheduled to meet with Jerry Dipoto.

What a shambles.

Servais deserved better than that, especially given hes only 1 of 2 coaches to make a play off...

Also makes me think this was ownership rather than Dipoto

I don't care how you feel about Servais (general "you", not anyone specifically), that's some despicable bullsh!t.

Are they trying to make people hate this franchise?

Yeah I’m not a fan of Servais, but you’re right…that’s so weak to find out you’re getting let go by the media, and not the guy that brought you with him. Dipoto is a class A douche if that’s the case

after hearing the news I thought what has Dan Wilson done since he retired, in 2013 he was named the minor league catching coordinator what ever that means maybe it will be something like when Gregg Popovitch was named the coach of the Spurs after being an announcer

I do think the Mariners need someone from outside the organization that won’t be afraid to provide some discipline Buck Showalter comes to mind and is presently unemployed

Scott Servais merely the most convenient of changes to be made. I saw this coming, but perhaps a little surprised they did it now when they didn't give themselves a bigger opportunity to do a more comprehensive and exhaustive search for a new manager. Figures they'd go the sentimental in-house route that might appease a growing disgruntled fan base.

How long are the Mariners going to continue to mine the sentiment of the fan base around teams that never even made it to the World Series?

Our bar for this team is set so damn low.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/57...o-fire-scott-servais-name-dan-wilson-manager/

"Wilson, Servais’ replacement, represents a connection to the franchise’s glory days. Wilson played for the Mariners from 1994 to 2005, spending much of that time as Randy Johnson’s batterymate. Wilson, 55, has never been on a big-league coaching staff or managed at any level, but he has been a familiar face around the current team."

Dan Wilson? I mean, I get that options are going to be very limited in late August, but he has literally zero experience as a coach or a manager. Very odd choice in my opinion.
Definitely an interim August choice...to finish the season....but then again, who knows?
