Until the offensive talent arrives from Everett and above it's not going to get
a whole lot better offensively.
Why? Because of Stanton - That is plain and simple..The pitching is here and the
BP will recover, the talent is there now.
All we are bitching about is offense and Dipito is not trading off prized pitching and
prospects to get it.
I agree with that (sorry) It hurts for now sure .. But when the owner does not want
high $$ on FAs and if you don't hit on lower cost ones.. It sucks sure (I hate it) but it
is what it is till the guys arrive from below, it's how we got pitching and it's how we
will get offense.
I do like Luke/Cabby trade btw, Randy one as well and the Robles pickup.
I'm willing to wait a couple more years of Dipoto.. I've seen a lot worse than him.

So the plan is, we're relying on a few guys in high A ball to all make it up to the bigs and be great players? Yikes. That almost seems like relying on winning the lottery as a plan for retirement.

As a Mariners fan, obviously I hope this works out amazingly and we finally become legitimate WS contenders, (something we could be right now if only Dipoto hadn't had such a complete and utter disaster of an off season), but as a realist, I'm awfully skeptical that's going to work out as well as we all hope. How many times have we seen top prospects make it up to the bigs only to flame out? Sure seems like it's been a lot.

Ok one last response tbf ..
The plan they are relying on is like the Rays, the ones we trade with so much.
It's not just a few guys in A ball but across..
Some pieces are already set here and the rest are coming .. They have said when
the times right they would sign a big $$ FA if needed, that time was not this year
or last and may not be next season either.
I'm a optimist, I'm not going blame the guy who gets handcuffed by owner but yet
has gotten us this far..
All teams have signed Fa's, drafted players and traded for players that busted every
year. You think another guy isn't going to be limited by Stanton?
See you next season..

When I was in first grade (92-93), I joined the Brookside (in Lake Forest Park) Singers and we sang a version of Take Me Out to the Ball Game that included extra verses. One of those verses ended "cause we might not be back next year at the old ball game." I sometimes look back on that verse with amusement in light of the 1995 season.

The only chance M’s win a WS if we luck into it by being cheap. We are never going to go out and build a WS team. Our best chance is we draft guys and hit on them. Is it possible? Sure. But I’ll bet on teams like the Dodgers and Astros who will build a team through the minors and free agency. We don’t use free agency and never have. Why? Because free agency means you have to spend money.

Also, let’s hope this was an off year for Jukio and not the normal. We are already strapped for cash, this kind of contract could set us back years. I do think Julio is closer to the player we saw last season, but jury is out on him.

Julio's contract is not that expensive (209m over 12 years base). That's less than they are paying Mitch Haniger this year (apy) and 7m less than Castillo makes annually, hardly something that would set them back for years if he's not performing. He only sees the rest of the money if he's top 5 in the MVP voting for 4 years, or if he wins it twice before 2028. Which if he is playing like that you'll be getting a steal at only 35m per year...

I'm just going to copy and paste one of my posts from another thread. This is why I think Dipoto deserves to be fired.

"They won 90 games, 90 games, and 88 games the past 3 seasons. I know that's not among the top teams in MLB, but it's not far off. If you can improve that just a little bit, you're 100% a playoff team, and likely a division winner.

I get that everyone hated the alarming number of K's last season, but that offense also scored the 12th most runs in baseball. That should be good enough if you have a top pitching staff. It would definitely be good enough if you could improve that just a little bit.

Instead of improving the offense by picking up 1 or 2 solid bats, Dipoto got rid of Teo, Geno, and Kelenic, and replaced those guys with Garver, Polanco, Haniger, and Urias. Teo and Geno were our 2 most productive players not named Julio. Those moves are 100% on Dipoto.

This team was a lot closer after the past 2 seasons than many seem to realize. All Dipoto needed to do was add a solid bat or 2 and not get rid of some of our most productive players. That's it. But instead of doing that, he got rid of 3 of our most productive hitters and replaced them with a bag of dicks.

This heinously bad offense, this season, is 100% on Dipoto. He dismantled an offense that was close to top 10 in runs scored, and replaced it with arguably the worst offense in MLB. No manager is going to be successful if that is what they are given to work with. Servais got sabotaged by his own GM, and now he's being scapegoated by that same GM.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fine moving on from Servais (although this mess is clearly not his fault). But there is no way in hell Dipoto should be allowed to keep his job at this point. Not after he botched this past off season as badly as he did."

And I'll add, last off season and especially the one before that were absolutely the right time to sign a big $$$ free agent or 2. This team would very likely be a true WS contender right now if they had done that.

1 more thing. Here's what these guys are being paid this season.

Teo - $23.5 mil
Geno - $11 mil
Kelenic - $760,000
Total - $35.26 mil

Haniger - $19 mil
Garver - $11.5 mil
Polanco - $10.5 mil
Urias - $5 mil
Total - $46 mil

Not only did Dipoto make this team significantly worse with the moves he made last off season, he paid considerably more to do it. It's astonishing how badly he botched it. Just a complete disaster.

Did I hear right they are looking to move on Arozarena and Gilbert next off season?
