They also talked about how he's 0-7 in overtime, and how he's never won a conference championship and never gotten to the Super Bowl.
If that's not enough to start a narrative, nothing ever will be.

Sam might never remove the narrative because the narrative was hogwash to begin with. He'd played on one good team in his career, and had had ONE playoff game. He'd had a "big game" with the #1 seed on the line the week before his lone playoff game. Yes, he played poorly in those two games. Somehow those two games created this "narrative". It's BS.

And I don't get why I'm getting such pushback here.

Sam made the plays he needed to make to help the team win.

He made the big throw to JSN that Lock would NOT have been able to make.

What is wrong with pointing that out? (especially when it's damn f'n true)
There’s a weird hate thing for Darnold on here. Like people seem to think he’s not the guy, yet look at the Bills, Ravens, Chiefs… top end qbs who aren’t where we are. Yes we’ve built a great team, but if we had Geno or someone like that we wouldn’t be here. Sam isn’t costing us games, he’s making good decisions and he’s not taking a ridiculous portion of the cap. Absolutely bizarre behaviour in here.

I agree. Like most quarterbacks, Sam has had some problems with turnovers and has made some bad decisions, but the bottom line is that he's a solid quarterback and is playing as well as any of them at this point in the season, including Stafford, Nix, Allen, Maye, Purdy, et al. Whether or not he's our QB going forward into next season is debatable, but let's cross that bridge when we come to it. Right now, I couldn't be happier with what he's done for us this season.

The team looks different this season than it did when Geno was our QB. It used to be that Geno would throw a pick then go to the end of the bench, sit down by himself, then throw his tablet. You don't see that out of Sam. The defense doesn't seem to care if Sam f$ucks up. It's like "oh well, let's just forget about it and go do our jobs." In the meantime, players from the offense come over and talk about what went wrong. It's a completely different atmosphere, or at least that's what I'm sensing.
So even after helping to win 14 games and getting to the NFCCG, you think it's debatable that he will be our QB next season?

I can't imagine he wouldn't be. Is there someone in the draft that you see pushing him to the bench? This is the worst draft class overall since at least 2013.

Kinda strange. All last week the consensus was: Sam just needs to not screw up.

That's pretty much what happened. Sam did not screw up. I think he maybe had one throw that was possibly picked. He dumped the ball several times when needed, and made some throws that missed in ways that were safe.

Sorry he didn't put up fantasy numbers, but as long as the whole team is clicking like we were, why should he try to?

You're referring to I think his very first pass of the game which went incomplete in the middle of the field, right?

💯.

At this point and with this teams ability, all we need him to do is manage…and limit the turnovers.

12/17…124 yards and 1 TD.

Pretty damn dull…doesn’t come out and say it’s a win. But, that’s exactly all we need him to do.

Not that we wouldn’t take 300 yards and 4 TDs..but, I think MM and Kubiak are exercising great restraint for ball security sake. It’s working.

The Darnold hate isn't weird, it's PATHETIC.

I have to wonder....

You have to be a true team player to accept throwing the ball as little as Sam has done.

I wonder if Russ would've tolerated this? LOL

Nfw!! I can totally see Russ audibling out of a run play from like, the two yard line just so he can be a hero and throw a TD pass.

No way man. Sam sucks. Just ask a few on here. FFS, we're in the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP. GEEZUS F MAN. Still arguing and blatant refusal to give the dude credit?
Montanahawk called those who were Darnold fans "Darnold Zealots", too. It's hilarious.

Because y’all have been ragging on this guy for weeks. Good lord. Guy does enough to win games, he makes the right throws, identifies what the D is doing at the line and makes adjustments. He’s watching his turnovers and helping us win games.
15-3, NFC CHAMPIONSHIP bound. Another game without a turnover.

I give up.....it truly will NEVER be good enough.

THe main thing we needed from Sam last night was for him to play a clean game and not turn the ball over. He did that, and more. Lots of folks said he could not do that, that he just doesn't have it in him to do that. Well, he did do that, and more.
I was screaming and jumping up and down and beating my chest after that pass to JSN in the back corner of the end zone was ruled a TD. Later I watched it over and over and over again.
Some of the comments in this thread called that pass an "elite" level pass. What I saw from studying the replays is exacrly what OCs andQB coaches see. It was a dangerous throw that was ill advised. Sam had a defender bearing down on him head on, was backpeddling, and threw the ball into a very tight window between two defenders. That is exactly the type of throw coaches drill QBs to avoid. That's the bad part. The good part is that he threw it so close to the corner and that he was targeting an elite receiver who managed to make the catch and get his feet down in the nick of time. It could just as easily have been an endzone drive killing INT which is the very thing we do not want from Sam. It worked this time. But will it work again next time?
