He's better than Geno. I said what I said.
Not a high bar, but yes. That said, I hope he can capture some of the mojo he had with MN, because throwing 1 td per game (like Geno) isn't going to get us into the playoffs, or very far if we do get there. Hopefully he'll settle in and get more juice as the season goes along. Then again, maybe he's just a mid qb and we shouldn't get our hopes up too high. Time will tell. At least it's fun to watch again.

McCarthy threw 2 picks and pretty much sucked for the Vikes in a 22-6 loss
I have a question for @glenwo2 because he is the expert on all things Darnold: How did the Vikings fans feel about letting Sam go after last season? And how are they feeling about things now?

There must have been a fair number of Vikings fans who thought that it was stupid to move on after a stellar 14-3 season. Ever hear of the expression, "If it's not broke, don't fix it"? Did anyone think that they would win MORE games with JJ McCarthy?

Well...nevermind the fact that he threw TWO touchdowns UNLIKE Geno (on MNF)...

What if he gets us in position for a Walker/Charbs TD instead of throwing a TD? 🤔

Many of them were okay with letting him go because of several factors :

1.) They believed in McCarthy

2.) They soured on Darnold after those final 2 games (even though it was a total team fail in the playoffs against the Rams and not Darnold's fault)

3.) Cost. They felt that Vikings GM Kwesi couldn't have afforded to re-sign Darnold as it would've prohibited him financially from upgrading the OL. And Kwesi was pretty hesitant in Franchising him.

(Some "upgrade". That line is performing worse than the one last season. 😂)

Lately I'm seeing a ton of Buyer's Remorse happening because once again McCarthy is INJURED which suggests that he could be an Injury-Prone QB. And that would make (in hindsight) their Decision in letting Sam go...a foolish one.

I have seen more than one Vikings fan who said "Look at what Seattle gave Sam in terms of a contract. You mean to tell me Kwesi couldn't offer him THAT???"

Now they're going to be stuck with the cremated remains of Carson Wentz (and his career) and Door #3(Bosmer). They also just brought in Desmond Ridder for a tryout. So things have gotten desperate in Vikings land.

And I could only sit here and laugh my ass off.

Fans over there couldn't shove Sam Darnold out the door fast enough after those 2 games.

Many over there believe Darnold can't survive without throwing to Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and TJ Hockenson.

Yet here we have him with Back-to-back games of 100+ yards receiving by JSN from Mr. Darnold. And we had him get Cooper Kupp involved.

This just feels so good right now. 😤😤😤😤

I was mistaken. I thought he only threw one. That's great that he threw two! All I'm saying is he needs to be more like last year's version of SD if we're going to have a shot at going deep in the playoffs, understanding that we will have more of a running focus. I get it.

This is what I don’t get. Belief based on what? His college tape? The OTA’s and practices before tearing his meniscus in the first pre season game? They jettisoned a 14 win vet QB for a dude that has never even finished a pre season game!! And it’s not like he was a Elway/Luck/Manning prospect. I’m not some huge Darnold fan either, as a matter of fact I believe being a ginger is a pre mortal punishment from God.

Even if the raw talent is there, no doubt they are running a dumbed down version of KOC’s offense while he desperately tries to get JJ up to speed. It’s like having a 100hp governor on a 500hp engine, because KOC’s offensive ingenuity is a huge asset for the Vikings.
I have seen more than one Vikings fan who said "Look at what Seattle gave Sam in terms of a contract. You mean to tell me Kwesi couldn't offer him THAT???"

There are 17 OB’s who have a higher compensation package than Darnold right now. Some are backups and some are worse at playing QB than they are at getting consent from women.

Now they're going to be stuck with the cremated remains of Carson Wentz (and his career) and Door #3(Bosmer). They also just brought in Desmond Ridder for a tryout. So things have gotten desperate in Vikings land.
I had a Minny number pop up on my phone yesterday, and I seriously thought it might be O’Connell wondering what my availability is. I’m 53, 30 pounds overweight, and find masturbation too aerobic.

With rare exception going back 30 years, quarterbacks who play for the Jets shouldn't be judged for their time with the jets.

Also, Sam had some great tape on an awful Carolina team.

That's a mighty ungrateful fanbase, to turn your back on a QB who won 14 games for you.

But I get it, I also thought that Darnold's success was a product of O'Connell's system, and that it wouldn't be replicated elsewhere. But whether Darnold can succeed elsewhere or not, the Viking KNEW that he could succeed in Minnesota. That's the part that doesn't make sense. Who cares if he's a system QB, if he is balling the heck out of that system? 14 win seasons don't grow on trees. I think the Vikings might regret not hanging on to Darnold.

Blasphemy.

Mark Sanchez should forever more be judged by the butt fumble.

I'm going to say that the combo of FAT Rex Ryan (once he lost all of that weight, I think he lost his coaching ability with it) and Sanchez was pretty magical at the time.

But Sanchez is the outlier here.

The Jets are still the Jets.

EXACTLY THIS.

BTW, Darnold based on just one game (Game 2) proved he CAN succeed without the Vikings so-called "big guns"(Jefferson/Addison/Hockenson).

So he's NOT a product of KOC's system.

He's actually a very GOOD QB.

Is he elite? Too early to tell.

But is he good enough for the offense to put up over 20+ points a game (leaving our Defense to take care of the rest)? I think he is.

How is THIS not a Roughing-the-Passer penalty?

I thought he looked a lot more comfortable than in week 1. Week 1 he looked very uncomfortable to me. But the playcalling had a lot to do with that imo. There were times I thought the playcalling hampered this game too but was night and day better than last week. Hopefully it all continues to improve.
