No reason to think that Rypien is a good QB, so they likely still suck. But teammates might rally a bit with new QB. If Rypien win this game in a convincing fashion, we may have a QB controversy in Denver. Hackett might want to ride hot hands for couple more games.I guess we'll now see if RW really is the sole problem or are there other issues in play.
I'm personally predicting Denver's best offensive performance of the year with Rypien under center. That's not really saying much though.
I saw him play in high school here in town at Shadle Park he balled out. Surprised everyone for going to Boise State over Wazzu. He has a nice arm but basically a poor man’s Drew Lock but he can hit open receiversNo reason to think that Rypien is a good QB, so they likely still suck. He knows a loss to the Jets is a very real possibility, this protects his reputation from taking a big hit. Ole Russ is making business decisions.Couldn't handle another loss.. while I doubt the brand is actually injured itll be interesting in donko land if Rypien wins tomorrow.
The injury is for sure PR related and Hackett is definitely using it to get a chance to run a game without Russ. How it goes will be very interesting though I'm very concerned they will do better with Rypien which could tank our draft prospects. This is Hacketts call. He knows that this is his PC v Wilson moment. He has a chance to show that his play calling isn't the issue. If Rypien goes in and even in a loss, moves the offense, hits the open guy and scores a few passing TDs, Hack will earn some respect. If the team rallies around Rypien and moral ticks upward, I could see Hackett putting Russ back in this season, but on a very very short leash. And if Russ falters again, I fully expect the injury card to be played for the first time, maybe as a reaggravation of one of his current 'ailments' and for him to be sat down.
And if Rypien then plays well, I don't think Russ comes back this year. they shut him down, and figure out what to do about him in the offseason. Give him a chance to learn the offense from his couch and come back next year with a better grasp of the plays and a mended PR image. And at that point, he may be coming back to a different coaching staff...
