This will be a good test for his self awareness in the face of all the criticism. He's going further down the rabbit hole if he tries to overcompensate for attention (warming up against air, overexuberant cheerleading, wanting to be seen being too helpful, etc.) Just act normal. We'll see.

He basically got beat out by Bret Rypien. The hamstring became a good scapegoat excuse and would’ve never sidelined him in Seattle. For 8 years he had a top 10 scoring defense to rely on. And even in Denver they have a decent defense but Wilson’s regression became reality even with his biggest supporter Cowherd

I guess we'll now see if RW really is the sole problem or are there other issues in play.

I'm personally predicting Denver's best offensive performance of the year with Rypien under center. That's not really saying much though.

No reason to think that Rypien is a good QB, so they likely still suck. But teammates might rally a bit with new QB. If Rypien win this game in a convincing fashion, we may have a QB controversy in Denver. Hackett might want to ride hot hands for couple more games.

I saw him play in high school here in town at Shadle Park he balled out. Surprised everyone for going to Boise State over Wazzu. He has a nice arm but basically a poor man’s Drew Lock but he can hit open receivers

This train wreck in Denver is hard to look away from. Plus every Denver loss is a higher pick for the Hawks!

I feel bad for Wilson but his lack of personal insight, (plus sycophants in the media stoking his self deception....Cowherd), led him to this place.

Yeah, I have no reason to think Rypien is any good but I have a feeling he'll make some basic pre-snap reads & get the ball out on time & run the offense the way it's designed like Geno has been doing for us.

Still might not be enough to win because it looks like the Jets also have a decent defense.

It'll be interesting to hear the Bronco locker room chatter after the game if Rypien looks even half serviceable.

He knows a loss to the Jets is a very real possibility, this protects his reputation from taking a big hit. Ole Russ is making business decisions.

Wow, could that read any more like it was a written by Wilson's PR team? Schefter must have to word things like this or his source (Wilson's agent I'm guessing) will stop feeding him info.

This is Hacketts call. He knows that this is his PC v Wilson moment. He has a chance to show that his play calling isn't the issue. If Rypien goes in and even in a loss, moves the offense, hits the open guy and scores a few passing TDs, Hack will earn some respect. If the team rallies around Rypien and moral ticks upward, I could see Hackett putting Russ back in this season, but on a very very short leash. And if Russ falters again, I fully expect the injury card to be played for the first time, maybe as a reaggravation of one of his current 'ailments' and for him to be sat down.

And if Rypien then plays well, I don't think Russ comes back this year. they shut him down, and figure out what to do about him in the offseason. Give him a chance to learn the offense from his couch and come back next year with a better grasp of the plays and a mended PR image. And at that point, he may be coming back to a different coaching staff...

The injury is for sure PR related and Hackett is definitely using it to get a chance to run a game without Russ. How it goes will be very interesting though I'm very concerned they will do better with Rypien which could tank our draft prospects.

I hope the experiment fails (even if watching Russ get outplayed by two different backups in the same season would be hilarious) because I want a top 10 draft pick from Denver and Russ starting was almost certainly going to lead us to one.

The Donks fanbase caught on faster than ours did.

Is that an iceberg?...

I think Rypien wll play well and Donks rally around him.

I can just see the press conference a week from now, Hackett at the podium, "Russell has had a setback in his recovery. We are going with Brett Rypien again this week. There's no timeline for Russell, we are just taking it day by day." Then the week after it will be, "Russell tested positive for Covid this weeki. He's currently in quarantine and unavailable to play."

If anyone watched "American Underdog", remember how they showed Warner's HS (or was it college) coach refusing to put him in at QB, because he wouldn't stay in the pocket? Then Warner only gets a chance to play after enduring an "everybody gets to hit Kurt" practice. I'm imagining a scenario where Russell is benched until he consistently goes thru his reads and progressions and gets the ball out on time. Maybe "everybody gets to hit Russell if he still has the ball after 3 seconds". Good luck to Nathaniel Hackett. In 2023.

You know, even if the Broncos still have a poor offense but the head-scratching offensive play calls disappear, I think that'd be good enough for me--as long as the media caught on.
