Russell Wilson not very Wilson like in playoff win.

Did anyone else think that Russell Wilson had a subpar game against Washington? He was great rushing the ball, but he didn't look very good passing he ball. It seemed Wilson wasn't commiting to the pocket like he normally does, and he also was missing throws, and reads that he normally would make like clockwork. The deepball to Baldwin, and he completely missed Sidney Rice streaking behind the defense.

But with Wilson, I am not worried. This kid improves all sorts of aspects of his game. He'll be better against the Falcons.

PS, QBR agrees with you, giving him a 36.7 grade or something like that. Either way, low.

I think he'll be fine next game. He had to get his feet wet and get adjusted to the blitzes he kept seeing. That's the only way coaches can game-plan against him is to blitz him. I think now that he's seen a heavy dose of it, he'll be more prepared next game.

I've said it in other threads, I'll say it again here - The horrible field had everything to do with Russell's issues throwing the ball yesterday - good footing and footwork are very important when throwing passes in today's NFL - Also, I think that Russell is used to being able to throw the ball up and let receivers like Baldwin and Rice run under the the ball - The field conditions yesterday prevented the receivers from running at their normal speed which directly resulted in those overthrows.

The Redskins were a high-pressure blitz team. He did ok and will learn from what he went thru.

I wasn't a huge proponent of complaining about the turf before the game because it sounded like too much of an excuse for why we might lose, but I wonder how much that was a factor, both in wilson getting his feet set comfortably, and the timing to receivers in their routs.

He did miss on a couple throws.

However as far as 'russell not being russell', aside from the mishandled snap he played a solid game as usual and avoided any costly mistakes. he took some sacks and there the ball away instead of making bad decisions.

Not anything I'd be concerned with, around the NFL this wildcard weekend it seemed like QB's weren't bringing their A game for whatever reason. Wilson was one of the better ones on the weekend.

He played just fine. I think he will do much better next week, because that read option should shred Atlanta's defense. Isn't that what Cam Newton rolls with? He had 100 yards, or close to it, in both games this year.

My problem is he missed some throws under no pressure, he just seemed "off". Maybe it was the field as one poster alluded to? Wilson was just so inaccurate during that game.

We just won our first road playoff game in almost 30 years, with a rookie QB starting his first playoff game.

But yes, he was a little off. He missed a couple of wide open receivers, too - the one to Baldwin and also Sidney Rice, which would have been an easy TD (on the long run he had up the middle).

Yep. I thought that too about the overthrows. While I don't think Wilson is a timing rhythm passer, those elements are still important to making a throw. Fed Ex field is horrible for so many reasons and it will not surprise me at all to see a big announcement regarding its upgrade or even seeing its sponsorship pulled because of it. Sad it takes a lot of bad press for anyone to care about it though.

The biggest thing that I didn't like from Wilson was how he bailed from the pocket too early. Normally he tucks and runs as a last resort, this game he was bailing on pass plays, and taking off with regular frequency. It caused us to miss some big plays down field.

This^ He was obviously affected a bit by the pressure of the situation, the field and the blitzing, but give the kid a break. He will be awesome this week.

Those werent his normal numbers... He had a sub 60% completion percentage and over the last 8 weeks he has thrown for multiple touchdowns more frequently than not.

Let's not lose sight of the fact he's still a rook. He's used to his regular season being concluded over a month ago. We can only imagine the increased workload he's had and trying to deal with not only being a starting QB, but also a sudden celebrity. The kid is likely starting to get exhausted. The good news is he will be (even) better next year.
