Whoever wrote this has absolutely nothing better to do. I have no idea why start a rumor like this. But fear is ridiculous. Wilson is definitely good and will be a stalwart for the next decade, but if you think the Niners are afraid of him, you are way ahead of yourself. There are only 2 QBs that I have 'feared' as a fan... Troy Aikman and Brett Favre. Those guys singlehandedly kept us from about 5 more championships during the NFC dominance of the '90s.
Give him some time... He can only play one season a year
Well said. And it wouldn't surprise me if Wilson ended up winning a championship at some point, but remember the lack of a cap in the '90s meant that there really was only 3 legit teams in the NFC from 90-'99
NFC Championship Appearances between '90-'99
San Francisco (6)
Dallas (4)
Green Bay (3)
Chicago (1)
Washington (1)
Detroit (1)
Carolina (1)
Atlanta (1)
Minnesota (1)
And during that stretch we only won 2 Superbowls. So during an era where the top talent was consolidated to a few teams, and the Super Bowl winner was the NFC (minus the '99 SB), it still was hard to pull off.
I realize Wilson is the second coming of Christ for you guys, but with the more even distribution of talent and the strength of the AFC, the possibility of winning multiple championships in a decade is very tough...
For reference, the '00s NFC Championship appearances...
Philadelphia (5)
St. Louis (2)
Tampa Bay (2)
New York (2)
Minnesota (1)
Atlanta (1)
Seattle (1)
Carolina (1)
Chicago (1)
New Orleans (1)
Green Bay (1)
Arizona (1)
Pretty hard to have multiple trips, and Philly didn't even win one. That being said, the AFC was much better during the '00s. And now the NFC is stronger.
