Passing yards are more indicative of how bad said QB's defense is, and / or how often they turn it over.
Passing yards too often are empty calories.
It's not a coincidence Wilson is going to set his personal best in yards passing in a season, when paired with the worst defense he has ever played with. If Seattle's defense was better, Pete would take the ball out of Wilson's hands and his numbers would be much, much, lower.
System is a factor as well, which is even more impressive given the system Wilson plays in. Wilson has to consistently complete passes into tight windows more than any other QB, behind bottom 5 pass pro. It wouldn't be fair to the league if Wilson was paired with Shanny, Reid, Payton, or McVay.
