Looks like he no longer counts towards comp picks now, too. Since guys signed starting Monday after the draft are not considered. So much for getting a 3rd rounder back.
KJ is a great LB, he is coming off of one of his best seasons, the defense was not strong last year and cutting KJ downgrades the D even further; why are so many on .net suggesting we will cut KJ?Wenhawk":2xgk7l52 said:Thinking KJ and Britt are cut after the draft and we bump up our offer to Clowney. We got a LB is the 1st, be better be able to replace KJ.

Just one less pick for everyone to complain about next year.QuickLightning":1rs3axj9 said:It's official. Clowney no longer counts towards comp picks. That was an expensive 1 year rental...

Then he completely gassed in the second half.
He's just doesn't seem to have the stamina anymore. It happened in 2018 too.
That's exactly what's gonna happen. I believe it will be in the 16 mil range. They didn't release Britt and Fluker for nothing. They are going to add a body or two on that D-line. Either it be Clowney, Yannick.,Judon, Jones etc...rcaido":mmfd9uc0 said:My guess is the Seahawks are just waiting for a team to make an offer Clowney would be willing to accept; then we would match it. Wouldn't make sense to just not get a 3rd round comp pick. That way, Clowney will not feel offended by whatever contract he gets as i think other teams are not going to offer as much as he wants.
Last season we were thinking 18-20+ million a year for him but his stock dropped to around 12-16 million range. That would be a steal if we can get it at that price for couple years or even a one year deal.
Not really. Unless we were happy signing only Clowney.KitsapGuy":elkw39ct said:[tweet]https://twitter.com/bcondotta/status/1254897732247973888[/tweet]
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/04/27/giants-use-ufa-tender-on-markus-golden/The Giants placed the unrestricted free agent tender on Golden, Field Yates of ESPN reports. That means if Golden doesn’t sign with another team by July 22, he can only play for the Giants this season. It also means that if Golden signs with another team by July 22, he will count toward the 2021 compensatory pick formula, meaning the Giants might still get a compensatory pick for him even though the deadline passed today.

I know the Seahawks agreed not to Franchise tag Clowney as part of the trade, but the UFA Tender is not the franchise tag, it's something different entirely (the deadline to franchise tag is already past anyways). Basically, the UFA tender is to protect teams from players holding out to sign until after the comp pick deadline, screwing them out of a potential compensatory pick. Clowney would be able to negotiate and sign with any team up until the deadline (July 22nd). However, once that date passed, he would only be allowed to sign with Seattle at his previous years salary + 10%... A way to force a decision either way... I know it would surely piss off Clowney, and I wonder if Seattle would just not want to deal with that. It's an option though possibly... :stirthepot:
