The penalty on Bennett where he sacked Ryan by the ankles and was called a penalty is total BS. Peyton Manning was just sacked in a very similar manner and there was no flag or mention of it.

It's a legit flag, and if they didn't call it for DEN than that's unfortunate for them and a poor job by the ref for not calling it. It's not the most fair penalty, but it's in the rule book.

He didn't hit ryan below the knees. He reached his hands behind to grab at his ankles. I don't like the call. I didn't think the hit by Irvin was so terrible either. I will admit to the PI on Gonzalez and the holding by Lockette though.

It looked like the most gentle tackle possible, haha. There was no other option for him, I guess he could have let him attempt a pass...

It is what it is though.

He didnt hit his knees. He wrapped up his ankles.

What on gods green earth is a D-lineman supposed to do these days??? Can't hit em high. Can't wrap their ankles. can't hit them more than .34 seconds after the ball is released.

God I hate NFL rules.

That tackle on Peyton was a one ankle tackle, completely different than Bennets tackle. That said, it was not a diving at the knees tackle and should not have been called.

I hope Pete asks the NFL to review that penalty and make a decision. The NFL should be called out on every BS penalty they call on us, so we either know we need to change how we play or that the NFL is set on screwing us.

Not debating whether it was a good call or not, just saying it was part of the rules and the ref called what he thought he saw. Basically I'm trying to address those completely blaming the refs because it's the NFL who makes the rules, but the refs just enforce it. Again the call might of been wrong by the ref, but the rule still stands as is, and that's where the NFL takes blame if you think it's unfair.

I think the most amusing part is he actually got credit for the sack.

Both areas are wrong.

The rule is terrible. Defenders have no place left where contact is allowed.

The ref threw the flag when there was no direct shot to the knees.

Wrong either way.

I agree that both area's are wrong in this instance if Bennett didn't hit him in the knee, but if he did, than only the NFL is wrong (if you disagree with the penalty). This is what I'm trying to say. Like I said, I don't know if Bennett actually hit him in the knee or not and I'm not debating the actual play but just the rule itself.

EDIT: People are saying "omg how are you goona hit the QB if you can't hit them there", but that's not for the ref to decide, but instead of the NFL, yet the refs are getting blamed for it. I was just trying to clear that up.

Who cares who is to blame.

The rule sucks.

The ref misinterpreted the rule and threw a crap flag today.

either way it sucks.

Not sure why you are trying to defend NFL refs, who have been terrible to us this year..

Yeah it all sucks, but the point is you give and take credit where it's due. Just cause they haven't done good in your opinion is irrelevant to the conversation. I'm defending them because they deserve the blame if you believe they missed the call, but not the actual rule itself where people are giving them flak for. It's just being fair.

Ok,

Well if you can provide a link where fans were claiming that refs were calling a rule that doesnt really exist in the NFL I guess I will understand your pulpit point.

You are arguing a strawman. Fans were angry that:

A. The rule exists in the first place
B. It was interpreted incorrectly.

Simple.

I feel like you're missing my point. I'm saying that for point A, fans were blaming the refs for the rule existing saying like "Freaking refs, how are you supposed to hit the QB if you can hit them like that?" Yes, I understand that it may have been interpreted/called incorrectly, but it's not their fault the rule is there in the first place because they don't make the rules.

Well if you can provide a link where fans were claiming that refs were calling a rule that doesnt really exist in the NFL I guess I will understand your pulpit point.

Don't know where your getting I'm trying to make this point. Only trying to say NFL makes the rules, refs enforce it, don't blame the refs for making the rules although they may have enforced it incorrectly.

QBs making $20M/Yr the rules are going to protect them.

You can bellyache all you want but that's the way it is and it isn't going to change.

I think someone needs to have a TV show on Sunday nights called "the worst ref/crappiest calls of the week". Just to showcase crappy calls like these and give some accountability where it is due. Maybe then Refs won't want to be that guy on Sunday night and perhaps if a ref is repeatedly featured on that show, he may not have a job at the end of the season. Just a dream of mine LOL

I thought it was a BS flag, plus Bennett was tripped or pushes down anyways by one of Atlanta's lineman.
