I guess 18 months make a HUGE difference. Since Mayfield is only 18 months older than Lock. Mayfields cookie is baked. He can’t improve - team or system be damned. But Lock? New team new teammates new system. He’s just wet clay to be formed in the hands of the master coach. 18 months Between infinite potential and dyed in the wool failure.
I wasnt talking about age in terms of calendar days on earth, but age in a franchise with some level of consistency, surrounded by a pretty decent suite of weapons. Yeah, Baker has had that for a solid two years + with little reason to fail other than his own ability.
Lock wasn't even wanted by his coach, wasn't handed the keys to the franchise like a top pick, nor groomed to be as successful as he could be, like Baker. He didn't have a top 3 backfield like Baker, nor a top receiving threat. He was brought into a system he understood and showed well his rookie year, and was then treated like a backup in a franchise ehos leadership has been entirely replaced since he's been there. That's the quality of the system Lock had - the entire leadership structure was tossed out with the garbage and a new one brought in.
Yes, Lock is less along in his development and assessing where he might go than Baker is by quite a bit.
