Here's what I think happened, and maybe I am being too charitable: the raw video from the elevator is extremely choppy, you can hardly detect the punches by Rice in it, and the fiancee looks more menacing coming forward toward him in slow, choppy motion. After TMZ cleaned it up and put it in real time, you can now clearly see who the instigator was as well as the velocity of those punches. Knowing how technologically unadvanced many DA offices are, it's unlikely they ever corrected the choppiness of the raw video for themselves.

Yea, i think you are giving them to much benefit of the doubt there.

I also want to speak my piece about this. As a former victim of domestic violence(you don't have to be married to qualify), I cannot understand how that woman married him. That is crazy! Also, I abhor violence of any kind and a woman that hits a man is just as guilty. There is no need to strike or punch anyone unless it's purely for self defense and I don't care what genitals are between the legs. Next up: Ray McDonald.

I know I get flamed for supporting Goodell. Even though I dont really support him as much as I get annoyed with the blame he unjustly gets for things he doesnt control.

The only way Goodell saves face if he wants to claim they hadnt seen the video, increase the penalties he gave to Rice.

But I think the way bigger issue that only a few people here seem to care about, Why the hell was a plea deal given to him? The DA doesnt need his wifes approval. They had access to this video. Even if the NFL really didnt, the DA did. How the hell does Rice walk away from this with a plea deal?

That's why they should both be fired. Roger Goodell and that DA deserve to lose their jobs over this. Goodell is either lying about not seeing that video or he was grossly negligent in not viewing it before making his decision. And yes, that DA should have thrown Rice in jail for a long time before it even got to this point.

Well said Andrea. I was trying to point this out in an earlier post and someone decided that I was an asshole for saying what my wife has told me after many years of therapy sessions with this subject.

Hmmm, I smell something....Either a gold digger, or enjoys getting beat. My wife is a marriage and family therapist and has seen this type of crap before. Some of these women feel trapped and continue with the relationship even though they get physically and mentally abused continuously.

In no way am I saying the woman is at fault because this is at minimum 2nd degree assault.

Yeah, some women are just fundamentally broken and are attracted to violent men & drama. I don't know his wife or her situation, but I would not be surprised if that was the case with her because she still married him. Whenever I hear a woman talk about how abusive all her boyfriends were, I know exactly the kind of men she is attracted to.

I think it is a mistake to assume this is atypical for domestic violence. I think most domestic violence is as horrible as this or worse. He hit her hard once and it knocked her out. Thankfully he stopped after one blow. I think he should have been punished severely from the outset; a full season suspension, full salary donated to domestic violence organizations, daily anger management/other counseling for the length of the suspension. After the year he must continue counseling (weekly or monthly) as well as perform domestic violence advocacy, talking to players and other groups about the issue. If he violates any of these terms or heaven forbid commits another act, he would be banned for life. This should be consistent for all domestic abuse cases.
