The question I have is could this trade have been made earlier? Is this something we'll never quite know?

Well with the trade deadline now almost here and the fact that we didn’t give up a ton makes me think Tampa was likely holding out for a better offer. I mean what incentive does Tampa have to not wait and hope for a better offer closer to the deadline?

The Rays didn't want to trade Arozarena until they had to. Arozarena is a quality bat and a fan favorite in Tampa. He also comes at a reasonable price and is under club control for a couple more years.

The Rays were waiting to see if they could stay in contention before they blew things up. The problem with Tampa is that they still have a winning record, but play in a tough division and have no financial ability to be buyers to improve their roster at the trade deadline.

I seem to remember Arozarena being a bit of a Mariner killer when he played us.

Well, he is batting 45 points higher than Haniger. And 7 years younger. I get the concerns over his personal attitude but I think the Yankees just got a good one.

They should trade for Yandy Diaz, too. Then hire Kevin Cash during the offseason. Lol. The Seattle Rays.
