I do not like to criticize too early because I understand it takes time to develop QBs but the last two number one overall picks in the draft still have a long ways to go

If we run it back with Geno as our starter in 2025, I'm going to be depressed. And get ready for the dwindling number of 12's at Lumen to continue. "OK, then who do you suggest we replace him with?" That's not my job. We have a GM who is well compensated (too well) to figure these things out. Frankly, I hope he's gone too.
Geno will be a 36-yr old free agent after the 2025 season. What then? Howell?

Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant, right? We don’t have to take a QB in first round, but at least buy a lottery ticket on one in 2025 and 2026.

I’m not saying get Trevor because he’s expensive but I don’t think he’s as bad as people think. I could see him doing what Darnold or Baker are doing

Would rolling with Lock over Geno in 25 have put butts in seats? Because that was the sentiment among many - that Lock was younger and had more upside... if only he could get a fair shake.

Will Howell bring fans back?

Neither would.

You know what's more depressing than not liking the qb on your team?

Replacing him and then trying to stare 5-12 in the face and convince yourself 'we are rebuilding toward something better with our QBOTF'...
I can't think of very many reasons why Geno would affect "butts in the seats" and most of them are shameful to say the least

If Lawrence looked like Geno he would be riding the pine.

Dude gets by on looking 'the part'. He's a modern day version of Jesse Palmer with some skill and arm talent. But he doesnt much to warrant his draft status and in the games I've seen him play, he consistently does dumb sh1+. Its like fans and media NEED him to fulfill some destiny to becime the next football God at QB.
I dont see it.

No way.
It's Gerry Cooney syndrome

Sporting news says Richardson from indy.https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/seattle-seahawks/news/seahawks-anthony-richardson-trade-colts-prediction-nfl/03c93ddcfeeaec01752aada6
From the article:
”However, they didn't hold a high enough pick - Richardson went to Indy at fourth overall and Seattle settled for left tackle Charles Cross at ninth.”

The writer has not even bothered to fact check which draft he is talking about. Richardson was 2023 and Cross was 2022.. So there is probably nothing but lazy click bate behind the whole idea.

Lawrence is being paid an average of about $41M for the 5 years from 2024 to 2028. I think he's an upgrade over Smith, but not a $15M per season upgrade. Admittedly I don't know what salary Smith will command after 2025, (assuming his team option is picked up). I didn't like that the 1st 4 years of Lawrence's contract were effectively guaranteed, but I guess anyone trading for him would only be picking up 3 years now. I'd understand acquiring him, but I wouldn't give up anything significant to do so. Hard to see the Jaguars agreeing to trade him for less than a 1st and 2nd.

Not that it'll happen as Lawrence has a no-trade clause and he seems to be happy where he is.

I think Jax is a poorly run organization like the browns, Jets, bears, and raiders

That’s what I think as well. Lawrence has put up decent numbers too. He could easily be another Darnold or Baker with a better organization.

Geno is never ever going to lead this team to any sort of post season success. Period. The team is limited to potentially a low level playoff first round exit. He CANNOT win against good teams in the regular season and would get absolutely blasted against a good team in the post season.

Him being the starting QB next year means that we will, in the end, be no better than we have in the post season for the last decade. It is a sign of giving up yet another year. And it doesn’t advance us in any way for the following year.

Building a winning team is like swimming upstream. It takes effort. Staying the same with Geno as a starter is like treading water in which case the current is taking the team the wrong direction.

oh, and your implications are about as dumb as I have seen on this board.

The only place Darnold is doing what he is is in Minny with the staff around him. Maybe if we also get a magical qb whisperer, that person could make something of Lawrence. Otherwise, the chances he flips a switch and 'gets it'after years of developing poor habits... i dont think they are good.

I’ve always been a fan of Darnold and I think he’s just a really good quarterback. Sure doesn’t hurt to be in Minnesota but he’s a talented dude for sure imo.
