Geno Smith has the Mercedes S class syndrome. Most of my friends that own S class always has that it ain't a Bentley or Rolls when it comes to branding: and not a Ferrari something like it when it comes to image and in the chicks department.

Although S class is very good, arguably better than those more exotic brands, but it just hard to love.

Circling back to Geno, at his age, Hawks can't sell "HOPE" to the fan base like they could sell a rookie QB. In short, Geno could not put butts in stadium on game days.

Even with the Number one pick drafting a QB to start straight off is a risk, assessing QBs is an inexact science and a 2025 start can slip though to the top picks and even lower (e.g. RW3), but the odds of getting someone better than Howell in 2025 is not great getting someone on a par with Geno is very slim.

I have no idea what Geno would demand for an extention and he is getting older so could be below starter level by 2026. I would like to see us draft a QB not in the first round but in the hope they will develop into our QB for 2026, if he does a Russ and outperforms Geno in preseason then great but in all probability Geno is our QB for 2025 and if the backup is showing starting quality then we don't extend Geno.
Exactly

Seattle is in a very rough position as far as QB goes. We won't have the draft capital to move up and draft anyone worth while, nor is this a good QB class. We essentially only have one out to replace Geno and it will cost us dearly. That out? A Sam Darnold sort of figure. Those are essentially our options at QB, Geno Smith, or the pending free agent Sam Darnold, if he even makes it that far.

If we're lucky maybe we can trade for JJ McCarthy if the Vikes decide to go Darnold, but either way that'll cost an arm and a leg -- not sure the Vikes would be willing to part with their rookie either.

Either way, I think we need to think about a contingency plan for Geno.
Noooooooo

The problem is that you can't fix it all at once. I look at the current situation and think that replacing a QB is far more difficult than to build out an offensive line. There are organizations who have been trying to find QB for years. Cleveland, New York Jets, New York Giants, Denver Broncos (until Bo Nix)...
You never get a hit if you never take a shot.

The default is Howell.

If not now, when?

While I appreciate the position of the Geno loyalists I’d rather have Howell with a #15ish o-line using Genos $ than another year of Geno with a #30ish line. Of course I might be assuming too much as Schneider might simply be too inept to build a decent Oline. He never has before despite many of us here screaming for it for years and years and years.

Pounce on a free agent QB? Please no, draft a qb please. Free agent QBs are like geno or Kurt cousins or jameis Winston, I’m trying to think of the last time I saw a free agent qb that I was like “that would be cool,” and all I can think of is baker mayfield or Gardner minshew, and that’s only cause we had Geno… free agent QBs I can recall that were decent
Peyton manning
Brett Favre
Aaron Rogers
I guess Sam Darnold but I wouldn’t a said him without this year
Matt hasselbeck? Was he a free agent or did we trade for him

I’m only going to add that Geno was viewed the exact same way Sam is for almost a decade. You never know. I think Howell is talented so he has the tool. Now it’s a long shot he’s the next Geno but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. I’m also not saying I want him to have the job next year, I don’t
Geno was viewed worse

Never implied our recievers weren't good. I said they've had issues this season getting separation unlike Cincinnatis recievers. It's been well documented in all_22 film study. Everyone bitches about Geno holding the ball too long, which in some cases that's true, but a lot of the time the film show recievers are simply not getting open. Mainly DK and Lockett.
I think our line has something to do with them not getting open, and play calling, rarely do you see Geno with tons of time AND no where to throw and often do you see two Seahawks WR in the same area of the end zone covered by three or four defenders cause the routes made it easy to cover in a crowd

We run plays like we’re not facing an nfl defense that gets confused by receivers running next to eachother.

We all know there is better out there than Geno. I’m not a Geno fan before I’m a Seahawks fan. I wish this FO went all out on a QB in the draft years ago. But instead we’ve traded down and picked up second round running backs and think we can fill out our oline in the 5th round.

I dunno man, for a couple years now I've been seeing posts about how Geno only looks good against bad teams. Which to me shows that if we play a team with a D-line that can't overcome our woeful O-line, that Geno plays all elite and stuff. And he stinks it up when we play a good team, meaning a team with a good D-line. I believe this is causal and not a mere correlation. With the quality of our O-line, getting a new QB would be like getting a new shelter cat after coyotes ate the last one, and leaving the new one outside with the coyotes. I don't think Tom Brady or Joe Montana could look good playing here right now.
That is an awesome comp, bringing in a new QB behind this OL is like, "getting a new shelter cat after the coyotes ate the last one"!!
(and leaving the new one outside with the coyotes!) Shelter cat--nice touch! Cost-cutting measure, instead of a pricey pedigreed pussycat!

Yup, let's just throw a new cheap shelter-cat QB out behind an OL that can't protect, an OC that can't scheme protections, and predictable playcalling with the QB always in a predictable spot for the sackmasters! What kind of seasoning do coyotes like on their kills? Can we leave a bottle of that out for them too?

We have urban coyotes in my neighborhood here in South Orlando, FL. Our 7 month Malinois puppy is now big, strong, and mean enough that coyotes might pass her up for easier feral cat meat. But I'm still not going to tie the dog up outside overnight and leave the gate open with a "Coyotes Welcome!" sign, even when she's full grown.

P.S. This pampered puppy sleeps with parents, not outside.

I don’t see any point in moving on from Geno if it’s not for a rookie. There are no better free agent than him.

If we run it back with Geno as our starter in 2025, I'm going to be depressed. And get ready for the dwindling number of 12's at Lumen to continue. "OK, then who do you suggest we replace him with?" That's not my job. We have a GM who is well compensated (too well) to figure these things out. Frankly, I hope he's gone too.

I don't really see any point in moving on from Geno, or Howell for that matter, until something is done with the O line.
Be it new personnel or new offensive coaches...something has to be done there before even looking at a different QB.

The Seahawks are doing it the right way. The Seahawks are maybe two OL away from having a solid OL. That is when you can bring in a QB for the future.

Look at the Patriots in comparison they are doing it backwards. Maye behind that Patriots OL is putrid and he is lucky to not be seriously injured at this point. True, the Patriots actually have guards worth their salt but their tackle situation is, so, so, so bad.
