We swapped a third for a fourth. We didnt give up much to begin with.

This is what I'm thinking too. I don't know if Howell will garner a whole draft pick by himself, but by the 5th round there may be some teams willing to do a pick swap to get a year of Howell

We traded down 24 spots from the third to the fourth (78 to 102) and 27 spots from the fifth into the sixth (152 to 179). That's pretty significant for a backup QB. Granted, I'm sure they had higher hopes for him.

We're not going to get anything close to that now. It's not worth it to me for a conditional seventh or something. I'd rather just let him compete for the backup job with Lock, who has been pretty bad in his relief appearances anyway, and maybe a rookie. Hell, it's not like Darnold is remotely close to a sure thing.

Another ridiculously dumb trade by Schneider. Somebody is not doing their homework because you don’t trade a guy a year after you traded for him unless something extraordinary takes place or you realize he just plain sucks. Hey John, that’s what the tape is for. Amateur hour.

With that in mind it makes sense to trade Howell now for whatever the Seahawks can get. Unfortunately everyone else also knows this and Howell didn't have much trade value beforehand.

Good points. Howell was brought in with one mission or task: to unseat Geno Smith, he was to finish what Lock started but couldn't finish. Howell was supposed to be the finisher. Howell failed, and Schneider has to do it by himself.

Again this is an outright lie. JS SPECIFICALLY SAID HOWELL WAS BROUGHT IN AS A BACK UP! Lock was signed to the Giants and we needed a back up QB and had zero cap space. JS went out and got a back up QB on a cheap deal for a move down in the draft. The whining about this move is silly. We will almost certainly get something back as well. Painting the Howell trade as unneeded or costly is over the top hyperventilating about a nothing burger.

In retrospect Lock beat Philly while Howell's showcase moment could not have been worse. Where is the value in that?

The Seahawks sent a 3rd (#78) and a 5th (#152) to Washington for Howell and a 4th (#102) and a 6th (#179).

-Basically we got Howell for moving down from #78 in the 3rd to #102 in the 4th round.

Right now if they found a trade partner, it would likely be packaging SH with a day 3 pick to move up to the next highest round.
Howell & our #137 in the 4th to move up to a high(er) 4th rounder would be my best hope.
-More likely it's Howell & a 7th for a 5th.

That is what happened when we traded for Howell it was reported that several teams made offers. I don't care if we get nothing in return. What we gave up isn't something to wring our hands about. If we get something great, if not who cares. We could still keep him and get a compensation pick next year when he signs elsewhere too.

We'll know that in about 8-9 days from now. Or at least have a better idea and it all depends on what fish are biting on what bait.
