Sorry, but this is XL and it's not even close.

I mean, your first ever Super Bowl appearance, and then from the very first drive, you get this ever more sinking sensation that they have no interest in allowing your team to win. When you finally get down to them calling Matt Hasselbeck for an illegal block while he was performing a tackle... you're just dead inside.

Super Bowl XLIX, ok, like... that was such a terrible single moment. But, it was just a blown play. Whether you blame the call or the execution, that happens in football all the time. The game itself was fun, probably one of the best Super Bowls I've ever seen.

XL was just a travesty from start to finish. There was nothing redeemable about that game and rather than being a Super Bowl that the Seahawks lost, it was a game they were never allowed to even compete in.

As the person who created this thread, to get a true poll number you would have to only ask this question of folks that were Seahawk fans for at least 15 years before XL. Also, another reason why XL to me was more devastating was it took the Seahawks 30 years to get to the Super Bowl at that point. When they lost the game, I just didn’t have the faith that they can get back there again anytime soon and maybe having to wait another 30 years if I even lived that long.

-- XL by far. It was the first time I had to accept that there was that much manipulation in the NFL. I had hoped it was only the NBA, but umps in baseball, the "Russian Judge" all the NBA refs from the same county in Philly, etc.

-- The more recent was just a great game. If you could pull yourself out of the fandom of it, it was a fantastic Super Bowl. Chris Williams looks like he will be the next no name player to explode in a Super Bowl. Having been a coach who understands matchups and clock management, I had no problem with the "pass". It made sense, it just didn't work. I personally would have given the Lynch the ball, but I understood the thought process.

This. I can still feel the sick to my stomach feeling after XL, it was the worst case of betrayal I've ever experienced as a fan.

I quit watching the NFL for almost 5 years after XL.
Didn't even start watching again until we got Lynch in a trade. Skipped every SB after XL unitl 2011 for the same reason.

The other loss was on us. We screwed up.
But XL was a robbery..a farce.
Kind of like this coming SB will be

To lose by one's own merit is one thing, but to have the league push their own agenda (Bettis) is far, far worse.
Several years later head ref Bill Leavy even admitted to it.

So, it's XL for me.

Again, those who are voting and weren’t either 1-alive yet, or 2- just new to being a Seahawk fan, can’t fathom the pain of the XL game. I gather if these folks had been long time Seahawk fans when XL was played, many of their votes would have changed to XL being the more devastating loss of the two.

Depends on how you view it. I was a fan way BR and watched both. The thing with XL* the NFL itself ensured the Seahawks were not going to win this game. 49 was different...a chance at a dynasty and being 1 yard away from it and they blew it in such dramatic fashion. It also ended any chance at a repeat with team drama and internal fighting starting. XL* was infuriating to watch live asking how can the refs be making these blatantly bad decisions??? Until you realize in the years after the obvious actions to rig this game there was no chance in hell they'd ever allow the seahawks to win regardless. It opened my eyes if anything...

I was an adult for both games, and it's still 49 by a considerable distance. I share all the anger and disgust of the first one, but the shock of 49 was so intense I still gasp from it at times when I think about it, I mean still get a strong physical reaction from it.

We win that and we would have taken down a Peyton Manning led Broncos team and a Tom Brady led Patriots team and a chance to try to win three in a row for the first time ever. Instead, the team never quite recovered from it.

Sorry, but I chuckled when you said that you still “gasp“ at the thought of the Malcolm Butler interception.

XL hands down. We never had a chance and we were by far a much better team. To this day, I have never rewatched that joke of game.

XL EXEL AXEL. Being screwed will never settle with me. A friend gave me a christmas ornament that has the team and 2005 on it. I still have it. Just to piss me off again. I may take it out to the golf course and see what happens when I strike it. HARD. 49 is a mistake....But not steered as much as Axle.
