Tate only had like 600 yards and 3 TD in his first 2 years...If this guy sees the same playing time as Tate I am sure he will do better than that

Repeat after me..

We got the red zone threat we needed in the first round......

Exactly, I don't think red zone will be an issue, defenses won't know what to do, load up the box or cover our league best TE. Then you will have other guys open because of this or an easy RW run in to the endzone. :th2thumbs:

The play that SHOULD have been called in the superbowl..or at least the option to...if we insisted on passing

I think JS got bent over on compensation to the 'Skins. Maybe he needs to stop doing deals with just his friends, because they sure don't do us any favors.

Lockett fits the Seahawk-y mold. Bit of a poor man's Tate in some regards, but he runs wicked routes. I don't mind that they moved up for him, but as I've been saying this off-season, we are getting reamed constantly on draft compensation.

History says that JSPC have only moved up in the draft once before.

That was for a spiraling down the draft board medical red flag Jesse Williams. They traded two picks for one.

The fact the Seahawks gave up 4 picks in a trade up for Lockett means they must have absolutely love the guy.

They passed up Jalen Strong, Chris Conley, Sammie Coates, and who everyone thought was a Seahawks pre-draft fab in Ty Montgomery. Not to mention Grassu, who some thought was the 2nd coming of Max Unger.

So, for the first time in the Carroll era, the Seahawks made a huge trade up, and Tyler Lockett is the player they got with that trade.

I've been impartial to Lockett throughout the draft process.

But looking at him now, he seems like a very nice comp to Percy Harvin. Harvin also came into the league around 185 ish and worked his way up to 200. Same for Baldwin.

So if you look at it that way, in that Lockett is a poor man's Harvin you really start getting excited for the guy.

Maybe Lockett isn't as talented but from all reports, he's not a headache, quite the opposite, all the intangibles you could want in a WR and considered a film rat. Wilson will love that aspect.

Furthermore it seem unlike Harvin, Lockette can actually run great routes and be a deep threat. Something Harvin seemingly was reluctant to do on a consistent basis.

And also unlike Harvin, who only could return kicks, Lockett can do it all: KR, PR, and he can play gunner.

There is a lot to like about Lockett, I thought the comparison to Tate was more Ty Montgomery, to me, Lockett is more Doug Baldwin with Percy Harvin athleticism. And I can dig that.

Also, the reason that the Seahawks didn't draft a big target WR like Strong, Coates, and Conley might be because the Seahawks have liked the off-season progress of Mathews and Norwood. Both have shown talent in thier rare opportunities on the field.

Getting a guy like Lockett really complements the WR/TE corps. There really isn't anyone on the roster with Locketts ability. Closest thing was Richardson But who knows If and when he'll be right again. You can say Baldwin but he doesn't break ankles like Lockett does.

Every offense with a big dominant receiver could use a jitterbug, lightning quick WR to complement as well as keep defenses honest.

I also like the Edelman comp, that dude tore us up, a guy like Lockett and Graham will prepare the Seahawks better if they get a rematch with Edelman and Gronk.

As WR, Harvin is a poor mans Lockett.

time will tell if Lockett's PR = Harvin's KR

I thin Schneider likes our picks even more than I do.

This guy REALLY likes Lockett. A lot of gifs.

some profane language...

The best part? Seattle traded up 26 spots to take Lockett, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TEXANS, who took a different WR the next pick.

The fan who wrote that analysis was a diehard Texans fan. I bet he raged pretty good.
That was a very good write up. If he is as good as the breakdown suggests on an NFL level, I will happily eat crow for questioning the pic.

Sounds like Lockett's ability to return kicks and punts were the major factor in why John and Pete wanted to draft him. They said in their presser they are counting on him doing returns for both and backing up Baldwin in the slot.

Now that Tyler is here, Ricardo's days are numbered. Tyler does everything Ricardo provides (WR, Gunner) and more (returns). Lockett is the upgrade for Lockette.

Definitely beats Ricardo as both a WR and PR/KR, but Ricardo lays the wood as a gunner.

I like this pick, just not sold on it being worth what we gave up. I have to give Pete and John the benefit of the doubt, but their history on drafting WRs in Seattle isn't great, outside of Tate (Durham, Harper). We need this one to be a home run.

I hope he can bulk up a little and retain his speed. He looks like he has the competitiveness, mental toughness, and selflessness to fit right in.

Lastly, I wonder what this means for Baldwin? Gonna be a real competitive position in training camp.

People are excited about getting a return man, but hopefully we actually got a good receiver because giving up 3 picks for a return man is a large price to pay. You don't draft return specialists in the 3rd round.

You do if your best option was Bryan Walters. Well worth the price if it means never seeing another Bryan Walters type returning punts.

I don't know about that. If your punter or kicker sucks, yeah, it's gonna hurt you, but that doesn't mean you draft a replacement in the first few rounds. Frankly I feel like the value of a kick returner is overstated. How much does the average NFL returner impact a game compared to a Walters type? Last year we were 25th in punt return yardage at 7 ypg. San Diego, at 16th, averaged 8.8. Only three teams had more than one punt return TD all year. Considering how little variability there is, how much of a difference does it really make?
You can argue that we gave up too much to get him, but even if we average just 1 extra yard on punt and kick returns that will make a difference throughout the season. Football is a game of inches and field position.

The hawks (like most teams) have drafted a lot of duds over the years, but this is a pick that has an extremely high likelihood of actually making us better on the field. A lot better? Probably not. But he will likely contribute.

Did anyone watch our dreadful return game last year?, well at least the coaches did.

Think field position. And as was stated elsewhere, 11 picks weren't making this squad.
