History says that JSPC have only moved up in the draft once before.
That was for a spiraling down the draft board medical red flag Jesse Williams. They traded two picks for one.
The fact the Seahawks gave up 4 picks in a trade up for Lockett means they must have absolutely love the guy.
They passed up Jalen Strong, Chris Conley, Sammie Coates, and who everyone thought was a Seahawks pre-draft fab in Ty Montgomery. Not to mention Grassu, who some thought was the 2nd coming of Max Unger.
So, for the first time in the Carroll era, the Seahawks made a huge trade up, and Tyler Lockett is the player they got with that trade.
I've been impartial to Lockett throughout the draft process.
But looking at him now, he seems like a very nice comp to Percy Harvin. Harvin also came into the league around 185 ish and worked his way up to 200. Same for Baldwin.
So if you look at it that way, in that Lockett is a poor man's Harvin you really start getting excited for the guy.
Maybe Lockett isn't as talented but from all reports, he's not a headache, quite the opposite, all the intangibles you could want in a WR and considered a film rat. Wilson will love that aspect.
Furthermore it seem unlike Harvin, Lockette can actually run great routes and be a deep threat. Something Harvin seemingly was reluctant to do on a consistent basis.
And also unlike Harvin, who only could return kicks, Lockett can do it all: KR, PR, and he can play gunner.
There is a lot to like about Lockett, I thought the comparison to Tate was more Ty Montgomery, to me, Lockett is more Doug Baldwin with Percy Harvin athleticism. And I can dig that.
Also, the reason that the Seahawks didn't draft a big target WR like Strong, Coates, and Conley might be because the Seahawks have liked the off-season progress of Mathews and Norwood. Both have shown talent in thier rare opportunities on the field.
Getting a guy like Lockett really complements the WR/TE corps. There really isn't anyone on the roster with Locketts ability. Closest thing was Richardson But who knows If and when he'll be right again. You can say Baldwin but he doesn't break ankles like Lockett does.
Every offense with a big dominant receiver could use a jitterbug, lightning quick WR to complement as well as keep defenses honest.
I also like the Edelman comp, that dude tore us up, a guy like Lockett and Graham will prepare the Seahawks better if they get a rematch with Edelman and Gronk.
