I'm surprised at how many people hate this pick. This is a top 5 talent and the best Interior pass rusher on the Seahawks. Just read two scouting reports saying he has all pro potential and a chance to be great. It's a high risk high reward type pick for sure but Seattle with its leadership on defense was probably the best place for him to land. Kam, Bennett, Clark, Earl etc will make sure this guy reaches his potential in my opinion. Seattle hasn't had the opportunity to draft this type of talent because of where they draft in a while and they jumped at the opportunity. They needed some infusion with elite talent and expecting to get it as late as they have isn't realistic.

He played through injuries, a terrible team and just a bad overall situation which had some impact on him taking plays off. Not justifying it or saying I like it but it seems somewhat understandable.

That's good stuff right there. In terms of physical talent this guy is top-10 in the draft. I'll give him a partial pass for now on the "lack of desire" claims, since he was playing hurt on a gawd-awful team with no talent around him.

"let em keep sleeping If i was playing this game for money... I aint playin this game for money, I will get the coaching I need on the next level and all these teams that pass up on me have to play me one day."

He is aware of his lack of repotoire of pass rush moves and is chomping at the bit to get new coaching to teach ELITE hand Technique.

Calias Campbell is over 30 and we just drafted his younger clone. Also we have Clintt Hurt who was CC's Dline coach @ miami so he has xp with this type of player.

INTERIOR PRESSURE on 3rd and long will give us sacks and more interceptions. Expect more Turnovers like 2013 this year bros were on our way

The McDowell and Griffin picks are the two most exciting ones so far. They are picks that have the potential to make the defense even better, adding an explosive 3T rusher and a shutdown corner with great ball skills to pair across from Sherman.

The other picks seem more about replacing current players if necessary. Pocic replaces Britt (free agent). Jones replaces Rubin (saving $3.8 million). Hill replaces Kam (free agent). Darboh replaces Kearse (saving $5 million).

Best pass rushing DT in the draft. This guy has to be double teamed and tripple teamed to be stopped. We now have a Gerald McCoy, Calias Campbell, Fletcher Cox, Aaron Donald.

Was the one guy that could single highhandedly launch this defense into the next level. He is a tilt the field type of player that once he gets setteled in and becomes a full time pro will have to be accounted for. This should be great news for Bennett and Avril.

If his technique is a question, then I have a question(s):

How many 20yo Dlineman have highly refined, NFL-ready technique? And if they do, and come with McDowell physicality, where do they get drafted?

My big problem here is that people seem to have amnesia when it comes to these dl picks. Clark and Reed were steals who were supposed to give us a dominant dl. Remember that? Anybody remember that? And don't get me wrong, they are good players, but they are not dominating from what I can see. Seriously how much draft capital do we have to throw at the dl?

Malik is definitely gifted but his work ethic questions are concerning. That's an intrinsic thing and you can't coach that up. He has to do it himself, if he struggles motivation...it's a another wasted pick at the top of the draft for the Seahawks. I hope he doesn't turn into Lamar King 2.0.

We will stop throwing assets at it when you stop time to prevent aging, prevent all injuries, and get a sack 100 % of the time on passing downs.

It starts in the trenches, I know most of you "fans" cant remember anything but OLINE and sherman yelling but our pass rush was weak last year; we were murdered by decent qb not even great oens just stepping up into the pocket.

I'm all for throwing assets at the D line and getting back to a NASCAR package. We did quite well with that a few years ago. Malik's a welcome addition.

Its ironic we call it the "nascar package" and the 1 singular white guy is the biggest liability and getting replaced lol

I dunno. I've been pretty happy with Clark so far. Can't be just me, right?

:ditto:

Clark looks like he's still improving going in to his year 3.

And it could be argued Reed was pretty solid for a rook. He'd didn't fall apart, for sure. Not many come in and dominate on DL as rookies.

I remember his 10 sacks last year.

Reed was never coming here to get 5+ sacks. He was here to stop the run be an anchor and hold his gap on downs 1-2.

Some people have no grasp of how football works.

Yep... he's a run-stuffer in the middle.

Reed is at a thankless position. His play was exceptional, rookie or not. He is supposed to eat up blocks, not to get penetration. So yeah, Reed an Clark were awesome picks. Hopefully, McDowell follows this mold.

I'm sure the Schneid would say McDowell is the pick he would've made in the first round if they kept the pick. They moved down and got picks and took the dude they wouda took anyway, just like with Lockette.

P.S. Clark rocks.

When you are drafting in the first round you want upside as well as a good player and Malik is unique with special physical traits a potential franchise changer so i believe him when he says that plus he is 20 years old i jumped out of my seat when they called his name. Our defense must return to its dominant form in order for us to reclaim our crown.
