Pete makes in game mistakes. He lets strange offensive calls get made at inopportune times.

His offense has been slow to start games.

This, however, is part of a more conservative approach to game management. One that has been successful more than not.

The 4th and 1 decision to kick a field goal looks bad because it was missed and subsequent td drive was enabled by a bad call on 3rd down, for example. If it goes to plan, it's 17-6 at half.

Pete's a pretty damned good coach. He's more innovative (or atleast flexible) than he's given credit. He's not shiny or exciting.

For me, I just would like to see him loosen things up for Russ... and we might be seeing that now.

A win is a win ; but this win once again should be credited to Wilson's play ; in " spite " of questionable coaching again.
An average QB couldn't win with the Hawks . This offense belongs to Wilson . Schotty--Solari--and especially Carroll are actually stumbling blocks for Wilson . IMO

No, it shouldn't. By that degree every win is on the qb...

Pete tries to bring balance. Sometimes it limits the QB. But it's rarely debilitating.

I go crazy over some of the stuff PC does ..Playing soft prevent
and getting torched underneath which allowed the Rams to get
back in..The lack of outside runs which would have killed the
Rams earlier..As fade has said change things up every now and
then but I'm saying on both sides..
However PC has gotten us to the very top and regardless of how
ugly it gets..It works a lot more than not.
A win is a win but like anyone else I'd like to see a complete
ass kicking that we know can happen if we just stay in
attack mode without letting them sniff close.

Petes ass kickings have always come from the defense taking over, and the offense taking advantage.

Perhaps it doesn't fit the mold of the current team.

But the comments that the game has passed him by are silly overreaction

There will be no complete " ass kicking " with the current defense . They are correctly ranked as just average in the league . Can they get better ? Absolutely . Will they be in the championship caliber conversation ? Very doubtful . IMO

People get strangely emotional any time someone is critical of Pete. I get it on a lot of levels but he's not infallible and like any other coach he has his weaknesses. He made a couple of really bad calls in this game, it's hard to deny that. Doesn't mean he's vastly better than almost any other coach or that he should be fired but again its ok to be critical. It's even asked for by his always compete approach and he shouldn't be above that philosophy either if he wants to continue to get better.

I agree its a little ridiculous to say the league has passed him by in his refusal to adapt but he's flirting with it on offense at times I think. I like his approach but really wish he would let Wilson fly a little more because the offense would be much more efficient. It seems to be happening a little bit and they talked about it in the off season but hopefully the trend continues. I think Russ is the best QB in the league, he should be coached like he is as well.

It happens with fans.

Look what happens when someone points out a flaw in Wilson or mentions a bad play or performance.

We live in a binary world. Ones and zeros with nothing in between. No room for nuance and subtlety.

I keep looking for it too.

People these days mistake disagreement for assault.

Still a great coach, but damn, is there a worse challenger in the league? Thank God he didn't throw some other dumb flag in the first half or something or we wouldn't have been able to get the Tedric INT overturned.

He was 1-1 on challenges and so was McVay. I thought McVay's challenge on the OOB catch was dumber than Pete's challenge on the OPI.

Pete's challenge win rate isn't much different than the league average.

Everybody just sees things through Seahawks lenses without perspective.

Saying Pete is bad at challenges isn't the same as saying everyone else is great at it. Strange argument that McVay making a dumb challenge redeems Pete. The decisions stand on their own.

It sure seems like he throws the flag at some strange times. I hope he gets better at it, but I guess he shouldn't look to get better because other coaches have made poor decisions too.

The point is context.

Football is hard for everyone, including the best. Coaches makes mistakes. They get caught up in the game. They challenge for their own reasons.

They also see something and get talking to their vision people in the box to see if they saw the same thing. Or they get told that it is worth it to try. You never know all the things going on....nor do we.

While it would be (obviously) nice to have the league's best defense again, it isnt required to have a championship football team.

Average to above average is ok if your offense compensates.

Aaah, the Seahawk story. Win a game, it's luck or they played a crap team. Lose a game, it's because they suck

History absolutely shows that defense wins championships in the NFL .

almost screwed this one up! He lucked out.

Hope you've sobered up by now.

Why do you say that, what did he say that was wrong? Fact is Carroll makes bad game decisions on a weekly basis. Some very bad.... I'd take McVay over Carroll all day every day...

What is all this should have and would have stuff... all that crap is irrelevant ... What was the final outcome of the game? Isn't that all that matters? everything that happens this week has nothing to do with last week... Hawks are 4-1 with the Browns next on the list.

If I would have picked the right lotto numbers I would be rich right now :sarcasm_on:
