The obvious thing there is taking delay and 5 more yards as they are meaningless. Ridiculous reason to call time out

I've never seen a coach take an intentional 5 yard penalty to save a timeout on a FG attempt.
Coach and offense was a little confused there. I'd rather spend the timeout and make the right call.

Really? I've seen it multiple times. Some kickers actually prefer an extra bit of space.
they called that do to confusion.
Never should have happened.

It WAS a waste - I would have preferred to see the Offense and the coaches on the same page, and a quicker decision made. But since they weren't on the same page, it would have been more stupid to NOT call the timeout and waste a trip into the red zone.

Don’t disagree but…..
Fact is this is PROFESSIONAL football and that should not happen as often as it does with this team.
IMHO “clock management” has always been an issue with Pete, it’s very frustrating

I was OK with it. Sometimes you need to work out down and distance, get the play in etc.
If we rushed it and didn't make the line to gain or hot a delay penalty everyone would be saying Pete is an idiot for not calling time out.
