Did anybody else hear the interview this morning? I listened to it while driving but can't find it online anywhere now. If so, did you feel like Pete was putting the lion's share of the responsibility on Russell? It was a few hours ago so I may be slightly off, but he said things like:
- We had receivers open, we just needed to get the ball to the ones who were the most open.
- We had exactly the one on one isolations that we wanted but we needed to make better plays and better throws.

Previously following losses he has talked more about the entire team; how we need to protect better (O-Line), how we need to be cleaner (penalties), how we need to get off the field on 3rd downs (defense), and how we need to be sharper (receiver route running). Obviously Wilson had a disappointing game but was he really missing wide open receivers? It didn't feel like that to me, but if so did we jump the gun on blaming the receiving group?

Russell had a bad game. Really bad. Anytime an NFL offense puts up just 89 net passing yards, you have to lay a large share of the blame on the quarterback. He made bad decisions as well as inaccurate throws. 41% passes completed and a QBR of 11.5 speaks for itself. Complaining about the play calling, the OL, or the WR's is nothing but a rationalization and denial of the truth. He needs to play a lot better or else we aren't going anywhere. You can't expect the defense to carry the entire load.

Hey, the cards had a couple of lucky breaks in their win against the Hawks last week. That Michael Floyd catch was VERY lucky and certainly wasn't a display of everyday skill.
The interception that was partially blocked from camera view...
That interception/bounce off of Baldwin's arm was clearly a refereeing F up.

No excuses but sh*t happens both ways. It wasn't our day for luck.

I haven't seen as much inaccuracy and locking on. I have seen the quicker bailing out, but much more prevalent in just the Arizona game. In fact, in the New Orleans game he looked so collected and calm in the pocket that it was almost like slow motion. And that is a team with a pass rush, even if it's not as epic as Arizona's.

As far as the emphasis on the deep ball, that's Pete. He wants it. He's always going to want it. He's never going to go away from it - the back-breaking, demoralizing big play. You'll never see it go away. It's a pattern we've seen since he got here, with every OC he's hired, with every receiver package we've ever seen drawn. "Run first" is just a euphemism for play action. I'm not excusing Russell for being off last game (though it was really just the last game IMO), but good luck expecting us to become the Patriots. We've shown the ability to run short-to-intermediate packages, but you can still Pete's just itching for the next deep shot he can take. HE'S the one defenses are trying to mind-read.
