Don’t get me wrong. I think the cheap dopamine hits from Insta and TT are primarily responsible for the epidemic of ED in young men, and a host of other ills, but it can be an interesting glimpse into other people’s lives.

Of course it’s curated, but so is every social interaction. Everyone here has a curated persona as well.

I’m fascinated by how people change when they suddenly become wealthy, and it will be interesting to watch what happens with this couple.

I remember Earl Thomas handing out “Free Safety Advice” in front of Pike’s Market, when he was a rookie. He sure wasn’t doing anything like that after he signed his big contract.

Anyway, just interesting to watch, and something different that people may not have seen, but might be interested in.

I don't really consider this forum as "Social Media" but not interested in arguing the point. If Seahawks.Net is social media for some, more power to them. Most here don't post weekly selfies or photo updates about their personal lives here like many people do on FakeBook or Impostergram.

Of course, there are some social media aspects of .Net, like people wanting to sell or donate their game tickets or Seahawks merch within the community, or people organizing watch parties or finding the best Seahawks bar in <random city>.

I do remember Earl and his "Free Safety Advice". He needed to have better safety advice, like don't let your jealous wife have a gun, and if she does get one, DO NOT GET CAUGHT by her, having a threesome with your brother and a random female who isn't your wife. And if you do choose to wear protection during the threesome, make sure it's bullet-proof.

All that said, I need to up my Seahawks game and find the best Seahawks bar in Orlando, and also in Melbourne/Palm Bay. Which will probably be a Bucs, Jags, or Phins bar first and Seahawks by request, or a giant wall-of-screens bar. There's a wall of screens bar half a mile away, so I'll check that out on an upcoming Hawks game day. If anyone is coming to Central Florida between Orlando and the Atlantic coast, hit me up. I think it was Soulfish who is/was coming to Tampa, which is a couple hours away from me, but I'm pretty Tampa-ignorant, despite having a housemate who is a big-time Bucs fan. (And another who is a loyal Pats fan despite their recent rough seasons, gotta admire his loyalty)

If you think a dying forum is social media, you're an idiot.

If you think online communities, where (mostly) anonymous strangers interact, network, and create and share opinions (content) through their curated persona accounts is not social media, then you’re in denial.

Just because the content is written word, and not snippets of video, does not make it any less social media.

Blogs and forums are the original social media, though they are losing out in the same way print media “lost out” to radio, then television.

To say that blogs and forums aren’t social media is akin to saying newspapers aren’t media, and hearkens back to a time when old fogey print readers felt somehow superior to those young radio and television consumers.

-- As someone just entering his old fogey stage, 53, I will just say this. Media and even social media or (interactive) was information, then information that could be discussed. Neither of those are a particular threat. Modern social media, or targeted, is social decay and naturally divisive.

-- When you read an old newspaper, you may have been looking at one story, but you might notice another and read it as well. Thus expanding your knowledge.

-- When we post, cheer, argue on a forum like this one, AT LEAST you are absorbing other viewpoints. You may never agree, but that is fine, at least you are seeing them.

-- The modern targeted form of algorithm information, will naturally lead to hardened positions, with less and less room for compromise, because what you believe just gets reinforced, and you think anyone saying anything different must be lying to you, because "everything" you have seen and read agrees with you.

-- This will never be a good thing.

-- And finally, GET OFF MY LAWN....
