Pff aligns with his angle
Lol, I use PFF because it's used by front offices and coaches; ok, they gave me free access for years now, so that's that.

If it's good nuff for the John Schneiders of the world, it's good nuff for toffee.

I could see us having success with only two linebackers on the field and safeties moved into that outside role.
Lot's of teams running 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 with the sam LB becoming a 3rd safety or slot corner. Both formations function almost exactly like 3-4 and 4-3 respectively. Both started out as situational sets but are now pretty much base. Makes me wonder too because we have three good safeties by my estimation.

PFF is not actually good enough. Teams make use of additional data collecting services. Plus teams have their own unique scouting and grading systems. And, more recently, they make extensive use of all 22 video data with connected all 22 telemetry. Teams have grown their analytic staffs. Of upmost importance for week to week team adjustments in a highly contested league.

The PFF rankings are a consumer product offered for the entertainment of the general public.

Except I'm not entertained by a couple of idiots (Chris Simms and Mike Florio) who use it as the Gospel on TV.

F*ck them and F*ck PFF.

They were #14 in overall defense last year, and then #4 over their last 8 games as they became more comfortable in Macdonald's system and added Jones. They didn't lose anybody, yet their linebackers are #24 and their DL #23. I mean what is their secondary going to rank to reconcile all that...

it really is astonishing. every level is bad, yet the D is top 10. PFF really really blows

That just points to scheme being the difference maker.

I would agree with PFF that if you only look at inside LB, we are thin and mediocre. But if you include the EDGE LB's like Hall, Mafe and Nwosu, then it's a solid top 10 group.

PFF presumably has decided they don't want to include EDGE players in this category which is their prerogative.

I'd also say that MM is going to use Emmanwori like a Buddha Baker type jack of all trades. So that lessens the need to have depth at the iLB position. We are going to run a lot of 5-1-5 looks with 3 safeties.

I like Ernest Jones, but to be objective, he's just not regarded as highly by people around the league, not just by PFF. He's regarded as a good run stopper, but not very good in coverage.

Two other teams gave up on him in the last year. And in both trades, the teams took very little in exchange for him. Sean McVay, even after winning the Super Bowl with Jones, decided to get Bobby Wagner and move Jones away from MLB. And McVay is no dummy.

I agree with @Mad Dog that the scheme helps him look good.

How are we thin and mediocre at ILB? They dismiss Knight as a young liability, not a rising player…yet, he had 65 tackles over the last eight games (including three 10+ tackle games). We have arguably one of the better ILB situations in the NFL (a position that is actually weak league wide), not one of the worst.

They had the 49ers at #7. Their writeup was basically "they have Fred Warner (an OLB BTW) and then they have to figure what else they have". PFF just put zero thinking into this. It's nonsensical fluff.

Ranked top 5 in every category after EJ acquisition. Knight also stepped up huge for a rookie. ESPN, FOX and many other analysts have us top 5-6 this year including Mina Kimes and Cowherd to name a few

Everyone is upset over a PFF ranking before training camp starts? That's how it works for Seattle sports teams .
I hope it gets the Seahawks pissed off.
