On a day when the Hawks did nothing really well, they did everything well enough to win the game at 10am on the Road!

Newton threw for less than 150 yards
They gave up 1 touchdown
They forced 2 fumbles (one rolled out of bounds)
They didn't give up HUGE runs (yes there were a lot of 6-8 yard runs and that's not great)
Cam didn't destroy them running the ball
No real drops by the receivers outside of the one by Williams that was an awesome effort by him

I'm impressed with how they played despite who they're missing and when they were playing. Great Job guys.

Agree for the most part, but our ST was great today.

RWilson had a very stealth 300 yard game. If the announcers didn't say it and I hadn't see the stats, I never would have guessed he racked up that many yards.

Special teams was something they did really well today, I thought. Created a turnover and had solid punting and kicking/coverage/returns.

Need to limit penalties better.

Go Packers (for week one only).

Agreed. I was at a bar so couldnt hear the game. Then heard on the radio that he had 325 yards.

Wow! Really?

Agreed.People get caught up counting yards and 1st downs. Its all about the points.
Panthers have a lot of talent, more than people give them credit for.

you're right. The special teams definitely had a good game. I think that's helped out because Haushka seems to be able to kick it out of the back of the endzone this year and we're not worrying about KO returns. But that unit was solid today.

I hate close games but hey, I'll take the win everytime. Although the oline needs to step it up for us to have a chance next week.

remember this is one of the best front 7's in the game right now and they looked it. I think we did fine.

no one said we didn't play well. I said we didn't do anything ESPECIALLY WELL. The point is that this team can win even if we don't play an amazing game and even if all the phases aren't playing GREAT.

This is not a get down on the Seahawks thread. This is a "Damn our team can win tough games even without our A+ game."

I'm stoked

In nearly every other season that game would have been a Hawks loss. They closed that one out the way we need it done.

Mark me down as stoked...too!

Totally agree. It seems like he threw for more yards in the games when he ended up with less than 200.

I have no idea how he got over 300.

Yea it was about 320 yards and 25/33 which isn't a bad percentage.

I chastised Niner fans for this one, so I'll say the same thing here: It's not the Seahawks job to make sure that you're impressed by a great defensive game.

The defense was excellent. They held the opposition to 7 points. They forced turnovers. They held Cam Newton to his lowest offensive production of his entire career. Should we be impressed by this? Absolutely, we should. These are tremendous things to accomplish.

The special teams did great. Ryan's first punt of the game - which went for about 75 yards in the air out of the end zone was magnificent. We got turnovers. Hauschka never allowed a kickoff return.

When Wilson throws for 320 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions, you know the passing game was excellent.

The only thing the Hawks didn't do really well was the running game. It was awful. However there are two bright spots on even that mark. First and foremost, Carolina has one of the best, if not the absolute best, defensive front sevens in the NFL. They're going to be very tough to run on. Second, the last four Lynch rushes of the game - the ones that he made when we needed to push their defense and break them by running out the clock - averaged 5 yards a carry. He never broke a 40 yarder, but late in the fourth quarter he was pounding them and they were out of gas.

The Hawks just played a carbon copy of the game against Carolina last year. It also was a low scoring affair of two great defenses. We came back from a small deficit in the second half, then stoned the Panthers after they drove deep into our territory and then ran out the clock. We won that game 16-12 and this one 12-7. That looks like Pete figured out the formula for beating the Panthers and executed it.

The Seahawks did lots of things very well. The entire defense was great. Special teams was great. Passing was great. We left 14-22 points on the table through a missed two point conversion, the fumble at the end of the first half, Sherman's missed interception, and the points we could've scored instead of kneeling down at the end. If this game finishes at 26-7, no one says we didn't do anything well. Just make it 20-7 by kicking the PAT and scoring a TD on the late fourth quarter drive and it superficially looks like a blowout instead of the methodical victory that it really was.

the whole point of this thread was that nothing jumped off the page as a stellar game AND WE STILL WON. There was no boohoo we're so bad involved.

Our team can win even when nobody notices that they're quietly having solid performances.

We held a decent offense to 7 points on the road in the season opener at 10am. Our defense, lacking FOUR STARTERS, did that. "You kiddin' me?"

Five defensive starters if you count Jordan Hill.
