I am really facing some questions about this in my own hyperdrive analytical mind.

Both Super Bowl AND Division and Conference Championship Rounds.

It's about pricing, friends and family.

As a non season ticket holder who lives about an hour away from the meadowlands, how hard would it be to buy tickets? If it's possible I will pay any price to be there.

On the secondary market it's going to cost at least 2.5-3k per ticket, minimum.

Time to start putting money away. Is there an official avenue to do so?

For putting money away, try a bank. ;-) For tickets, StubHub, RazorGator eBay, etc... Trouble with the first two is you wind up paying exorbitant fees on top of the ticket price, but at least the tickets are guaranteed.

Whoah. GREAT point!

There was a website a year or three back that gave people the opportunity to "bid" on tickets to the Super Bowl and if your team didn't make it you were out your money but if your team did you were the proud owner of tickets to the game at a ridiculously discounted rate.

If that site still exists-somebody find it.

NOW!!!

My wife and two of our friends have made a deal. If both of us (two pairs) gets selected in the lottery, we're going. The guy and my wife would each sell their tickets to fund the trip and his wife and I would go to the game. (She's more of a fanatic than he is). The odds may not be in our favor but it just might work.

do season ticket holders get a chance at superb owl tickets?

I believe there is an allotment of tickets that goes to each SB participant's fanbase via a lottery system.

Some of those who went to Detroit can confirm or dispute that.
fanbase = season ticket holders? would love to get a shot at them. lodging is probably going to be the big expense IMO.

Sorry, yes. When I typed 'fanbase' I meant 'season ticket holders'.
thanks for the info.

As others have said they're expensive, but if you're willing to pay they're not hard to get. Last time we went I bought my tickets just a few days before the game, never got a hotel, left Portland at about 10 pm Saturday night, got to Detroit about 6 in the morning on gameday after a layover in Las Vegas, then spent Sunday night in the Detroit airport before flying out the next morning.

If we make it this year i'll probably try and do something similar, but i'm not sure if my current economic situation will let me.

I hear if you are willing to wait until game time they can be had from scalpers for quite cheap. Yes you may miss the first quarter but its an option.

If this were at all true it would be an absolute option.

And hanging in NYC for the week leading up to....and during......and after.....the game is part of the draw....

However....

I don't believe you.

I have heard it many times on local sports talk radio when they are talking Superbowl. Many tickets to be had at less then face value once the game starts. Scalpers aint just gonna eat them. Then will want something for them.

Worth the risk in my opinion.

Years ago when the Rams were in Anaheim, I purchased a block of 20 season tickets every year for years. When it came time for the SB, there were a few tickets auctioned off to the fan base, the rest were given out to dignitaries, The mayor, the governor, the big shots who had never attended a game before but wanted to be seen and had the horsepower to command the tickets that should have gone to season ticket holders.
To top it off, that year Rams owner Georgia Frontiere's husband was convicted of scalping 2500 SB tickets for a huge profit. The millionaire team owner's husband was making money from tickets that should have gone to good fans.
Dominic Frontiere, 56, an award-winning composer, was indicted in June of 1986 on three counts stemming from the scalping of more than 2,500 tickets to the 1980 Super Bowl in Pasadena.
In other words, you better have great friends in very high places to ever score SB tickets... There were a lot of broken hearted season ticket holders that watched the game on TV that year.
Every since that biotch Georgia stole our team and sold out to SL, I pray they lose every game they ever play again.

I'm going to sleep on the floor of the Hawkster's hotel room if we make it, they just don't know it yet.

Reading up a bit has changed my mind. Mainly because of the risk of counterfeit tickets. How do you know for sure what you are buying is the real thing?

If there was a way I'd drop some coin down on this, at least 5 g's if needed; I'm not a season ticket holder so chances of me actually buying a ticket and flying to New York and catching the game are very remote. I don't even know how the Superbowl tickets work, then getting the room and board could be costly.

...but to see this team finally win this thing live would be totally worth it.

SUPERBOWL 2014 TICKET PERCENTAGES, the allotment percentages are identical every year.
The two teams playing the game share 35 percent of the total. As host teams, the Giants and the Jets share 6.2 percent, and the remaining 28 clubs each get 1.2 percent.
broken down by met life's capacity. approx. 80,000
• NFL: 20,160 -- goes to media, sponsors etc. etc.
• N.Y. Giants: 2,480
• N.Y. Jets: 2,480
• National Football Conference Champions: 14,000
• American Football Conference Champions: 14,000
• Remaining 28 teams: 960 each, or 26,880 in all.

Most teams give the players each tickets then there media/sponsors, then lotto off the remainder to season ticket holders in pairs of 2.

I'll be at any road playoff games we have, but the Super Bowl itself doesn't seem as interesting. I would end up with terrible seats, after competing for them against non-fans who just have a lot of disposable income and want to be at a spectacle. I'm not sure why that bothers me particularly, but having a big party with friends and family just sounds better.

@BFS - I remember the site you are talking about, but it is really just insurance. You can always "self-insure" by wagering on the Seahawks to reach the Superbowl, then using the proceeds to fund tickets if we do. Your expected return will of course be negative.

$2500 for top seats
$1500 for the next tier seats,
$1000 for general seating.

Prices according to the nightly news

I am sure you can find places and pay a hell of a lot more

For Superbowl XL each ticket holder got one entry per seat and then an additional entry per year they've been a ticket holder.

So this year, I would have 2 seat with 10 years as a ticket holder so I would have 11 entries out of how many other Season Ticket holders are out there.

With this years SB is New York I would love to attend. I would find a way if I won the raffle.

I would get 18 entries
