Asked how Moffitt’s been doing in camp, here’s what Carroll had to say.

“John’s been battling,” Carroll said. “He’s had a good chance to compete. He’s been mixing time with Sweezy with the 1s, and it’s a competition that’s ongoing. “Sweeezy’s done really well. J.R.’s well ahead of where he was a year ago, and he’s trying to hold him off. But John’s working hard at it.”

Reminds me of when Mike Holmgren would say someone is one of his "favorite guys". Those guys were almost always gone soon after.

Yes...it's subtle, but reading through the white noise is telling.

I don't think he makes it. I dig his personality, but he just doesn't cut it on this team. We need probowlers on the line, not low-effort pranksters.

Sweezy doesn't wow me either, but his ceiling is definitely higher.

Yep. Kind of the lesser of two evils thing here I think. Sweezy still looks very problematic in pass blocking.

I know moffitt likes to joke around but what makes you think he is low effort? Has there been reports that he was not giving his all? I ask because I dont know and you seam to.

I agree with the assessment (maybe Kearly said it?) that Moffit has reached his ceiling while Sweezy still has a lot of untapped potential that could make his ceiling much higher. I think that's what the coaches are seeing.

That's obviously why MRob left him out of the last RRR....
He is outside the circle of trust.

The assessment seems to be that Sweezy has the best potential of the two and while he needs to work on mechanics, he will ultimately have the higher ceiling. They love the guy.

I've never noticed Moffitt giving a poor effort on any given play. Not that I am all-seeing; certainly not. In fact, the one time I looked specifically for Moffitt, to see how he was doing, in the Chicago game, he looked really good and had some key blocks on the two game-winning drives.
Just because Moffitt comes across as a goofball buffoon in Real Rob, that has no correlation with his ACTUAL effort in practices and/or games.
Sort of like the Daley Thompson (irreverent British Olympic Decathlon gold medalist) without the athletic talent.
As other posters noted, the issue with Moffitt is simply comparative lack of athletic ability relative to other options the Seahawks have.
The goofballness is an irrelevant side issue, and had he Pro Bowl level talent, we would all be talking about how engaging his offbeat sense of humor is.

The ineternet is awesome in this regard.

I have 0 evidence or knowledge, but I stand by my speculation.

Haha, I agree that that's a staple of the internet (and debate in general), but to be fair, people could always retort with saying you have 0 evidence to support that they have 0 evidence (at least in that lone post).

That's true, but I stand by my record as having 0 knowledge and 0 evidence on most subjects.

"I just try to go about it as professionally as possible, you know what I mean? If it was like the business, corporate world, I'd try to extort J.R. or do something like that and set him up, but it's not, it's honest athletics," Moffitt said. "He's one of my good friends on the team. He still comes over, hangs out. When we're in, we're just competing."
When asked to compare their skill sets, Moffitt said he's more advanced in terms of technique but conceded that Sweezy has the advantage athletically.

I have never seen Moffitt slack on the field. Never.

He can't help it that he just isn't the athlete Sweezy is.

If Moffitt is released (fairly likely, IMO), I hope he gets picked up by another NFL team. He's better than a decent percentage of NFL starters. Ours might be the only roster in the NFL too good for Moffitt.

Given that he was a 3rd round pick just two years ago, it's not out of the question that he could fetch a late round pick. I'm sure there are at least a few other FOs out there who had round 3-4 grades on him back then.

How long does Sweezy get to be a "project". Im no o-line expert but sweezy looks awful, consistantly awful. We run better when Moffit is in.
