An quasi-honorable mention for Wilson and that's about it.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...ell-picks-mvp-players-year-best-rookies-plays

"Wilson has thrown only 406 passes this season, the fewest by a considerable margin of any quarterback to make 15 starts. Deshaun Watson is the second-most infrequent passer in that group, and he's at 470 attempts. The average quarterback in that group has thrown 531 passes so far, which is an extra 30 percent on top of Wilson's total. If Wilson were making up for that with significant run volume, it would be worth considering, but he is on pace to finish with 69 carries this season, down from an average of 101.2 rush attempts across Wilson's five healthy campaigns as a pro"

I've grown used to morons in the national media thinking that volume means something, but the Carroll snub REALLY chafes me.

**SIGH**

ESPN is such a bottomless pit of (calm down) nonsense with too few there who actually know what the heck they're talking about.

As I've said before, this is Wilson's best season in the league for reasons that go beyond mere stats (and thus, are far more important reasons to the health and benefit of the team as a whole.)

He has always been one who plays best, and most dangerously, with a strong run game to depend on. Sure, he might have had seasons where he threw more passes but overall he was a lesser QB and the team dynamic suffered because that's not his strength. Call him a game manager (I've never understood the negative connotation some have for that term) he really is for the first time in his career, the leader of this team.

I've never been a bigger fan of Russel Wilson than I am this season. Schotty has been a HUGE factor in his transformation. Much more than any media reports have indicated. That's why I'm so big on Schotty - he's really helped to transform Russ in more ways than merely a stats-reflected QB.

So with that said ESPN can pound sand.

God bless Russell Wilson circa 2018. The guy is getting it done at a rate of proficiency that itself is a remarkable achievement.

Screw the media..They want high passing offenses but don't say what really wins SB's..
A run game and defense..

Probably could have shown a little love for Pete for coach of the year and Bwagz for defensive player of the year.

But meh, most of these "best of" lists are mainly players and coaches that are on top of the league, division winners and SB favorites, etc.

So hard to argue against guys like Mahomes, Nagy, Mack, etc.............besides Barnwell is a known old school football curmudgeon who isn't enamored with Pete's coaching style, or having a non cookie cutter traditional drop back 5'10" scrambling QB.

ESPN has always been limited in their knowledge and coverage of us. Berman was our sole cheerleader for years, Hass is the only guy there now that really gets us and he isn't a tier one guy on the station.

Us that have been here since the beginning used to wait for the highlights of the day and see Dallas and the 49ers as well as everyone else, Seahawks get a mention and a single play if we were lucky unless a favorite made a play against us.

On draft day years of going to commercial when our pick was up.

This is not anything new to many of us, why we enjoy it so much when the Seahawks push their way to the top and make them pay attention.

Too much emphasis on passing yards (and here above, on attempts).

It's the quality NOT the quantity.

Funny how they mention that he "doesn't throw enough" while ignoring that with almost 30% less throws, Russ is top 5 in number of TDs, percentage of TDs, etc.

There are stats and there are stats. ;)

ESPN is governed by rating's demographics.

A large part of America's sport's fans hate the Seahawks, something we should all be proud of.

What you do from 20 yards in is far more important than what you do between the 20's. Those are garbage yards that feed into volume stats. But its when everything tightens up near the endzone that the elite players make their money. Wilson's been doing that as well as anyone.

You pay your QB to do 2 things: Score TDs and not turn the ball over. That's really all that the job requires. The best guys just happen to do those things in clutch moments.

But who would want a QB that throws for 5000 yds, 20 TDs and 20 INT's over a QB that throws for 3000 yds and 40 TDs and 5 INT's? I can guarantee the former likely plays for a 5 win team and the latter a 10 win team.

So true. It's a fantasy football world now. People have blurred the lines between real football and fanTasy.

https://deadspin.com/how-are-russell-wilson-and-the-seahawks-doing-this-1831321738

Posted this earlier but might be more apporpiate here. Lots to unpack, but really interesting stuff on the offense, Schotty and Wilson

On Wilson "played himself into the MVP conversation, even though his conventional numbers look pretty pedestrian—he’s 19th in passing yards (3,296), 31st in yards per game (219.7), and 35th in attempts per game (27.1)—in such a pass-heavy league. But he’s throwing with accuracy, playing with aggressiveness, and making some damn tough throws when he needs to."

There are some fantastic points here. The main takeaway is what an exceptional job wilson is doing this year and how impactful Scolari has been

I'm confused. Why should any seahawk player or coach should be mentioned for any of the Titles for this year?

I’ve said this years before Seattle won XLVIII....
Win the whole damn thing and they won’t have a choice in having to respect you.

One of the things I throughly enjoyed after XLVIII, was there was no question the better team won that game that day, from start to finish, even the biggest haters had no choice but to give the Hawks their due.

Take the “respect option” out of it by raising the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the game. 8)
