Sgt. Largent":374djpup said:I said Carroll should certainly be in the conversation, but you're the one completely discounting what Lynn's done.
In one year he's instilled a toughness and edge to that roster, won 11 games and has the Charger's poised to make some noise in the playoffs.
Remember when everyone was pissed that Carroll was getting no love for coach of the year during our SB runs? That's what you're doing now...............discounting a coach's achievement because of roster talent.
Nagy and Lynn are IMO the frontrunners for coach of the year. Pete's done an amazing job, but IMO you gotta be further up there in wins and division title consideration before you get that award. If not, then let's just give it to coach's like Williams for taking over the Browns and winning 6-7 games.
Bottom line with this stuff? Stats and wins/losses matters............that IS what separates players and coaches for end of the year awards.
Saying Carroll has far out coached Lynn doesn’t mean Lynn hasn’t been a great coach this year. It simply means one coach did more with less.
Discounting Carroll during our Super Bowl runs would have been the weakest small minded opinion a person could come up with. The Legion of Boom didn’t just happen. The Seahawks didn’t just happen. Pete Carroll took a team FULL of undrafted free agents, 7th rounders, and mid-rounders and turned it into a hall of fame roster. He drafted and developed some of the best DBs in NFL history. He was widely panned for his draft choices initially. But instead, he COACHED a number 1 defense and focused on the development of Baldwin and Wilson. That is Hall of Fame coaching
Pete installed a system that’s being copied throughout the league, including on the Chargers. The Chargers are full of all pro talent right now. Rivers( under achiever, but still talented), Melvin Gordon, and arguably the best WR core next to the Vikings. I’m not sure what you’re arguing here. Did Lynn do a good job? Sure. Installed a good culture? Sure. But he has not coached up to Carroll’s level. Not this year, and DEFINITELY not during our SB years. Comparing Lynn to Carroll’s resume or 2018 coaching job is almost insulting
