It's all in how you look at it, I just can't fathom wanting your biggest divisional rival to win. Nope.
Not saying that it's WRONG for someone to choose to want the Saints to lose, just my personal preference to have the Niners lose.....and often.

Whiners need to lose. Winning the division is the most important thing. Getting a home playoff game is huge. The Hawks blew the N.O. game and it may bite them in the arse when all is said and done.

Make no mistake, getting any available help from other teams is very important.

We don’t have division locked up.
Until that happens, I want the 9ers to lose.

Let the other chips fall where they may.

Many good arguments for/against both scenarios but it all makes my head hurt. Trying to predict how all this plays out is tiring at best.

GoHawks.

Personally, I don't believe GB escapes the wild card round. They are weak, and vulnerable, but are positioned well for the 3 seed (favorable schedule, 2 game lead over Minn with tie breakers). I struggle to believe the scenarios where Minnesota catches up.

It will be the 6 seed coming out of that game (unless NO is the 3 seed), and the 5 seed coming out of the NFCE hosted wildcard.

None of the 6 seed candidates scare me at all.
- Minnesota Vikings (8-4, NFC North)
- Los Angeles Rams (7-5, NFC West)
- Chicago Bears (6-6, NFC North)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-7, NFC South)
- Philadelphia Eagles (5-7, NFC East)
- Carolina Panthers (5-7, NFC South)

Personally, I would rather host the 6 seed (Min?), than the 5 seed (SF) in the divisional.

There are so many iterations here that it is hard to figure out what is best, but I think the potential for SF to drop another (Falcons/Rams/Hawks) is higher than the potential for NO (Colts/Titans/Panthers). If we can't beat the Niners, at home, in prime time, for all the marbles, then we aren't going to the big show anyway.

So, after vacillating in my comments here all week, I think I gotta say, Go Miners/schmeiners/Niners whatever their cheer is. Better yet, go Tie

Never a fan of this thinking. "If we can't beat so and so, we won't win the SB."

Plenty of teams have lost twice to a team then beat them in the playoffs.

I'd much rather have a scenario where we can lose to the Niners and still have a bye. They are the toughest team on the remaining schedule so a loss is well within realm of possibilities and shouldn't mean you can't win a SB.

SF's best chance for losses heading in are the Saints and Rams. If they lose those two and we win the next 3, we can win the division before week 17. We can rest guys as needed. We don't have to go to war week 17, only to find ourselves beat up and looking at a first round away game.

The very first goal is to always try and win your division and let the rest play out.

The "big enchilada" is #1 seed. So if we settle for a taco, that taco may just be the ticket.

There isn't a single reason to want the Whining bee-otches to win.....None.

Wanting SF to win at NO is pretty much the same thinking as 'suck for Luck' or other 'throw the game for a better draft pick' BS. The goal of every team should always be to get the worst possible draft pick every year, because that's what happens to you when you win.

"You play to win the game." :Dunno:

I may be misunderstanding, but I think some of those guys want SF to win because they have confidence we will beat SF later this year and they want NO to have another loss to help our #1 seed chances....

Guess Im missing how this correlates to suck for Luck....

The correct correlation to "suck for Luck," is hoping NO wins so we have a cushion because you aren't sure that the Hawks can keep winning. It is letting someone else beat the team we would otherwise need to beat, so we don't have to.

Hoping for a SF win is saying that you believe in the Hawks, and their ability to keep winning, and you have confidence that they can secure the divisional crown without help from a non-division team.

Yeah, I still don't see how either scenario relates to losing on purpose for a #1 draft pick, but then again its been a long day

Jesus I swear that many here have never been competitive at anything, you want to win and win every chance you get, the Game, the Division, The Conference and the Super Bowl, easy path is great, but whatever the path you can't bitch about it since your in the dance, would of should of could of is really a pussy argument, yeah we all do it but really it is just an excuse.

After further review. I am rooting for the Saints over the 49ers for 3 reasons.

1. I am not confident in the Seahawks beating the Rams.

2. There is a chance Seattle could win the division and not have to beat the 49ers in week 17. The only way that happens for all intents and purposes is if SF loses to NO.

3. I don't really care if Seattle is the #1 seed, as long as they are at least the #2 seed. The NFC WEST division winner has a 96% chance of being just that.

That's the best thing about those two teams playing each other. One of them gets a loss, and it ultimately helps the Hawks. Go Saints

Not really. A Saints loss doesn't help us at all if we lose to the Rams. A Saints loss is only valuable if we win out. If a Saints loss requires us to go on a 9 game win streak to be useful, I'm not going to be cheering for it.

SF losing always helps us.

So basically hoping for the SF win means you've never actually watched the Hawks or the NFL.
Any. Given. Sunday.

Belief is irrelevant. Good teams lose one every now and then. It's the nature of the game.

I imagine the same people cheering for SF will go ballistic if we lose to the Rams and start the whole "we suck and don't deserve the playoffs!" diatribe.

Well, I don't want the Niners to win one bit. But IF they do win, it does knock the Saints down a game below the Hawks if the Hawks beat the Lambs. It's never a good thing for the damn Niners to win a game. My own opinion.
I already got roasted yesterday because I said I can't fathom wanting the Niners to win. Not going down that pothole again. Go Saints.
