If ever a team needed a bye week, it’s the Seahawks. And this fan base. I’ve seen y’all’s opinions about where this team is and where y’all think it’s going. I’m holding my opinion for after the bye.

As an educator, I use the summer to set myself up for the school year. The last 2-3 weeks of summer are spent intentionally preparing for students and lessons. If I find myself behind in any areas once school starts, I have trouble getting that back on track. Extra days off during the school year help in the self reflection needed to fix those areas where I’m not doing my best job of educating my students. Once upon a time, I was a brand new teacher and learned this the hard way.
The week to week regular routines make changing and fixing things on the go more difficult as you now have a whole lot of personalities in the mix.

Mike Macdonald and his staff are in a similar position. Since this staff was hired roughly 9 months ago, they put together a plan that they hoped and figured would garner the team wins. Training camp started and they implemented their plan. With virtually all of the staff new to their positions, they hit the ground running with hope that what they prepared for would come to fruition.

Games began and they were able to see their vision in reality. Some things worked, some things didn’t, and some things were just hit and miss. I’m sure they are aware that parts of this team need wholesale changes. The problem is in fixing these things on the go. I liken it to changing two tires on your car while driving 70 mph down the highway, without being able to stop. Sometimes you just have to limp into a rest stop.

During the season, some tweaks can be made, but if the problems are big, you just have to deal with them. The late great Chuck Knox used to say, “you play the hand you’re dealt.”

A bye week is just what they need. Some years I really hate the bye week. This year I embrace it. Hopefully MM and crew use it as a little bit of a reset. This is their chance to be able to step away for a short time to reevaluate where they are and where this team is.

I’m holding my opinion about this team and staff for after the bye week. My opinion won’t be complete the first game after the bye. My opinion will come after I see a trend, one way or the other. If they come out after the bye, and show that they have cleaned up the stupid mistakes that shoot them in the foot, I’ll feel better. If they start trending up in a positive way in terms of wins and play on the field, I’ll have an opinion of the abilities of this staff. If they start trending downward I’ll also have an opinion.

The honeymoon is over. Let’s see if this thing with Macdonald will work.

Blaming Macdonald for poor heat-of-the-moment player decision making is misguided. Coach will get us a strong defense (he is a defense guy) but it will take some time for him to figure out how to get an offense that can pull its own weight. We don't have the cap, or enough draft picks, to get it done in a hurry.

I need a bye week.
That being said, people giving up on McDonald is plain ridiculous. Have whatever opinion you want, but my god, overreaction much?
I’m not overreacting at all. I’m waiting to form an opinion. This whole team needs this bye week to reset the best they can.

I see the bye week as a test for the staff and team. This team is far from a playoff team. If they want to improve they need to put on the work. To me this should be a full week of work then let them have the weekend off then back to work Monday. No extended break. Let’s see where they are afterwards.

They aren't far from being a playoff team. They were one missed extra point from the win. They were a couple of boneheaded mistakes away from blowing out the Rams. And that is despite all the mistakes, and the terrible calls.

We definitely cost ourselves this game but let’s not forget this game was for last place not for first. This team couldn’t even get out of its own way in that situation. I’m not sure how they can be expected to win playoff games like that. Can they improve enough to become a playoff team this year? Yes it’s possible, that’s why I said we need to put in the extra work during the bye week and see if they can turn a corner when they return.

Extra work is definitely needed during the bye week but I believe it’s the coaches themselves that need to put in more time. Other than the Bills game, they had an opportunity to win every game they lost. Stupid mistakes have cost them wins. Let the players rest their bodies while the coaches evaluate and reevaluate what they are coaching and what they might not be coaching.

I’m looking for positive trends the last half of the season. This may or may not result in more wins. For the record, regardless of win/loss totals at the end of the season I firmly believe this staff from GM to HC deserves another year. Coordinators? We shall see. Position coaches? Earn it!

This was a game for second place. The winner is a game ahead of the Niners, and tied with the Cards for the best record in the West. Obviously, only one team is getting in from the West, and I still think it's either the Niners or us, with the Cards taking second place.

I'm going to be watching how MM responds during and after this bye. If he just keeps rolling with what they've been doing, I'll be really disappointed.

Focus on getting healthy, Do self evaluation & try and fix these mistakes we're having like Playcalling, scheme, effort, penalties, turnovers..

We'll find a way to lose on the bye week too. Why, you may ask? Because this is a team of losers, and that's what they do, lose.

People keep putting the defensive performance on Macdonald while excusing him from the offensive issues. The last I looked, the head coach is responsible for all phases of the game. If you don't know how to handle it all, you shouldn't take the job. If you're letting someone else do your job, then you're not really the head coach.

There have been many defensive-minded coaches whose teams excelled on the offensive side and vice versa. It's on Macdonald to fix the offense as well as the defense. Let's hope he works on that during the bye week.
