My thoughts on the offense yesterday

Again, this was one of those games where the offense looked so incredibly vanilla and it seemed like we were babying RW like early last season. This happened against san fran a few weeks ago and yesterday. I don't get it. We're more explosive and creative than this. Was it really Arizona's pass rush that was screwing everything up? No, it was their ability to stop the run. At some point you have to say, "ok the run game isn't working, lets try spicing things up". I love Bevell but he literally never gives up on the run game. When we can run the ball, we are unbeatable. However, when we can't, we need to adjust better or some other team will upset us again.

The playoffs have already started for us. Next week is our first game. This is it fellas, we'll need to go on a 4 game win streak to hoist the lombardi.



also, the ball hit the damn ground. Footballs dont bounce off humans fore arms like that.

Some of you guys are confusing being dominated on offense with "vanilla" or "conservative."

Our offensive schemes haven't changed since week six last year when Pete and Bevell finally took the reins off of Russell. When we stink up the joint on offense it's because we play good defenses that load up the box to stop Lynch, play disciplined on the edges to contain Russell and press cover our midget receivers and don't allow them to get open.

MOST of the teams we play don't have the personnel to play this way, but teams like the Niners, Carolina, Cards and Rams do........thus these type of games.

great post, i agree whole heartedly. Very few teams match up well with us, apparently the cards is one of those teams.

Some of you guys are confusing being dominated on offense with "vanilla" or "conservative."

Our offensive schemes haven't changed since week six last year when Pete and Bevell finally took the reins off of Russell. When we stink up the joint on offense it's because we play good defenses that load up the box to stop Lynch, play disciplined on the edges to contain Russell and press cover our midget receivers and don't allow them to get open.

MOST of the teams we play don't have the personnel to play this way, but teams like the Niners, Carolina, Cards and Rams do........thus these type of games.

and a good way to adjust to this style of defense is short quick passes to those receivers, perferably in the middle of the field. We were doing nothing in the middle of the field yesterday. The quicker russ gets the ball out the better. Defenses will get more PI calls against them too if they're playing press coverage. This is why Manning and Brady are gods. They can play incredibly well against any defense and can slice up the middle of the field like nothin'. I think russ capable, but he needs to be coached properly for this.

1. Completing quick passes is even harder against press coverage, because it requires not only separation, it requires timing. Both of which get thrown off with press coverage.

2. Even Brady and Manning have a hard time when they play big physical defenses that press and maul their little quick receivers.

The way you beat stacking the box and press coverage is to burn defenses with long post patterns and over the top plays. Which we did against teams like the Saints, who stopped pressing us after the first quarter because they were being gashed long.

That's why you use motion to allow guys to get off the line, also bunch formations, crossing patterns, picks etc there are ways to do it, we just did not do it.
